Die Martis, 23 Januarii, 1648.

Navy Supply.

ORDERED, That the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall be required to give Warrant to their Treasurers at Goldsmiths Hall, forthwith to make Payment of the Remainder of Forty thousand Pounds to the Use of the Navy, according to former Order, before they make Payment of the Money to Sir William Dick; and notwithstanding the Order of this House, for that Committee to state the Matter of Fact touching the Monies to be paid to the Kingdom of Scotland, and the Assignation thereof.

Courts of Justice.

Mr. Lysle reports from the Committee appointed to prepare an Ordinance touching the carrying on the publick Justice of the Kingdom, several Stiles to be used in Writs, Commissions, and other Proceedings, for the Opinion of the House therein.

Resolved, &c. That the Stile to be used in all Writs, &c. and other Proceedings in Courts of Justice, shall be Authoritate Parliamenti.

Ordered, That it be referred to the said Committee for carrying on the publick Justice of the Kingdom; and that they shall have Power to send for the Judges, and such other Persons as they think fit: Who are required to give their Assistance and Attendance accordingly: And that Committee is to present to the House the Form of the several Writs, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Whitlock do forthwith pen an Order for the Alteration of the Sale of Writs, and other Process.

Sir C. Coote.

Colonel Moore reports a Letter to be sent from the House to Sir Charles Coote: It, being read, was, upon the Question, assented unto.

Sir J. Pawlett.

Ordered, That Sir John Pawlett's Business be taken up on Saturday next.

Petition from Northampton.

The humble Petition of many the well-affected Inhabitants of the County of Northampton, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the former Committee to whom the Petitions of the like Nature are referred; to take the same into Consideration.

Stile of Writs, &c.

Ordered, That in all Writs, Patents, Commissions, Indictments, Process, and Proceedings in the several Courts of Justice, instead of the King's Name used therein heretofore, the Stile shall be changed; and shall be hereafter Authoritate Parliamenti Angliæ; and, instead of the Peace of the King, it shall be hereafter made the Publick Peace: And the Judges of the several Courts, and Barons of the Exchequer, and such Officers as the Committee, appointed for this Purpose, shall think fit to advise with, are required to give their Advice for drawing several Precedents, with the Alterations mentioned in this Order, which are to be brought in by the said Committee.
