Prayers.
Representation and Elections.
THIS Day the House, according to former Order, was resolved into a Grand Committee, upon Heads of a Bill for an equal Representative, and regulating their Elections.
Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Say took the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Mr. Say reports from the Grand Committee, That that Committee hath adjourned till This-day-sevennight; and desire the Leave of the House to sit then.
Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee, on This-day-sevennight; on the Heads of a Bill for an equal Representative, and regulating their Elections: And that Mr. Speaker do then forbear to take the Chair.
Ven's Widow.
Resolved, That the Commissioners at Goldsmiths Hall do give Warrant to the Treasurers of Haberdashers Hall to pay unto Mrs. Margaret Ven, late Wife of Colonel Ven, deceased, or her Assigns, the Sum of Six hundred Ninety-and-seven Pounds One Shilling, brought into the Treasury of that Receipt of Haberdashers Hall, upon the Prosecution of the said Colonel Ven: And that the Treasurers do make Payment thereof accordingly: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Mrs. Ven, or her Assigns, shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said Treasurers for the same.
Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to consider how the Monies that have been disbursed, and are due to Colonel Ven, and formerly ordered by the Parliament, may be speedily paid and satisfied unto Mrs. Ven, his Widow: And Mr. Alderman Allen, Mr. Pury, and Mr. Lechmere, are added to that Committee.
Resolved, That it be referred to the same Committee, to consider of some Recompence to be given for the faithful Service of Colonel John Ven, deceased; and to present the same to the House.
Ordered, That the Commissioners of Goldsmiths Hall be authorized and required to give their Warrant to the Treasurers of Haberdashers Hall, to pay, unto Colonel Godfrey Bossevile, the Money payable to him out of the Monies brought in, or to be brought in, to that Receipt, upon Discovery made by him: And that the said Treasurers be required to make Payment thereof accordingly: And the Acquittance and Acquittances of the said Colonel Godfrey Bossevile shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said Treasurers for the same.
Goldsmiths Hall Commissioners.
An Act, giving Power to the Commissioners of Goldsmiths Hall, and for Advance of Money, touching Discoveries, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Colonel Purefoy, Sir Henry Mildmay, Colonel Peter Temple, Mr. Lechmere, Mr. John Ashe, Sir Gilbert Pickering, Mr. Leman, Colonel Bossevile, Major Lister, Sir John Bourchier, Colonel J. Temple, Lord Grey, Mr. Pury, Mr. Clement, Mr. Edward Ash, Mr. Garland, Mr. Holland, Mr. Wilde, Mr. Oldesworth, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Salwey, Colonel Wayte, Colonel Rich, Colonel * Jones, Sir Wm. Strickland, Mr. Say, Sir Richard Lucy, Sir John Danvers, or any Five of them: To meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in Mr. Speaker's Chamber.
Persons to be tried.
Mr. Thomas Challoner reports from the Council of State, "That, in pursuance of their Order of the Twenty-eighth Day of June, referring it to the Council to think of some Names of Persons to be offered to the Parliament, who are fit to be brought to their Tryal in the High Court of Justice, . . . have pitched upon these Men following; viz. Sir John Winter, now Prisoner in the Tower; Wm. Davenant, called Sir Wm. Davenant; Colonel Legge, Prisoner in Exeter; Colonel Gerard, now Prisoner in Carnarvon Castle, hath been in Arms against the Parliament, and in the Rebellion of Ireland; Captain John Randolph, taken in the Insurrection of the Earl of Holland; Henry Stanley, for endeavouring to carry away a Frigate belonging to the Commonwealth."
Resolved, That Colonel Gerard, now Prisoner in Carnarvon Castle, be one of the Six Persons to be tried by the High Court of Justice.
The Question being put, That Wm. Davenant, now called Sir Wm. Davenant, be one of the Six Persons to be tried by the High Court of Justice;

Ordered, That it be re-committed to the Council of State, to consider of and present the Name of one other Person, to make up the Number of Six, to be tried by the High Court of Justice; and to make Report thereof To-morrow Morning.
Lieutenant of Ordnance.
Resolved, That Major General Harrison be appointed Lieutenant of the Ordnance during the Pleasure of the Parliament, in the Room of Sir Walter Earle: And that Mr. Say do bring in an Act to that Purpose: And that Major General Harrison do execute the same Place of Lieutenant of the Ordnance, in the mean time.
Trade.
Ordered, That the Debate upon the Act concerning Trade be adjourned until This-day-sevennight.
