Prayers.

Insurrection at Oxford.

MR. Scott reports from the Council of State, touching the late Insurrection at Oxford; and a Letter from Oxon, of the Sixth of September 1649, from John Mill to the General.

Which was this Day read.

A Letter, subscribed T. F. of the Sixth of September 1649, directed for 250, was this Day read.

A Letter from the Council of State to the General, of the Eighth of September 1649, was this Day read.

The House being informed, That Captain Wagstafe lately come from Oxford, was at the Door;

He was called in; and, being come to the Bar, did make a Relation of the whole Proceeding, in the late Distemper amongst the Soldiers in the Garison of Oxford; and how the same was appeased.

Whereupon he was ordered to withdraw.

A printed Paper, intituled, "An Outcry of the young Men and Apprentices of London, &c." was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England be authorized and required to issue, under the Great Seal, one or more Commissions of Oyer and Terminer, for Tryal of such Persons as have been Contrivers, Promoters, or Publishers of the Book, or printed Paper, intituled, "An Outcry of the young Men and Apprentices of London, &c." and such other Persons as are otherwise guilty of Offences within the Act of Parliament, intituled, An Act, declaring what Offences shall be adjudged Treason.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to give Direction to Mr. Attorney General, touching the Persons to be prosecuted on the Act for Treason; and what shall be requisite therein: And that Mr. Attorney General may resort for Direction unto the said Council in that Behalf, and the Proceedings therein, as there shall be Cause.

Mayor of Taunton.

Ordered, That Mr. Searle, who is chosen Mayor of the Town of Taunton, be left to his Liberty therein.

Attorney General.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to appoint such other Counsel to assist Mr. Attorney General in the Business of the Commonwealth, as he shall have Occasion; and also to appoint some Person to solicit and prosecute Matters of this Nature, on the Behalf of the Commonwealth, as Mr. Attorney shall direct.

Declaration.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to prepare a Declaration, upon the whole Debate of the House, to undeceive the People upon this Business; and present it forthwith to the House.

Mr. Scott is to acquaint the Council therewith.

Wagstaff's Claims.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration the Charges of Captain Wagstaff; and to give him such Recompence therein, as they shall think fit.

Army.

Resolved, &c. That there be an Addition to Colonel Orkey's Regiment of Dragoons, to make up the same One thousand: And that they be added to the Establishment, to be employed for the Service of England or Ireland, as the Council of State shall think fit: And that the General be desired to retrench that Charge some other way, as shall be most convenient, out of the present Establishment, in lieu thereof.

Duty on Coals.

The Question being propounded, That the Imposition of Four Shillings upon the Chaldron of Coals, formerly taken at Newcastle, be taken off; and shall not henceforth be paid;

The Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put;

It was Resolved, That the Imposition of Four Shillings upon the Chaldron of Coals formerly taken at Newcastle, be taken off; and shall not henceforth be paid.

Business deserred.

Ordered, That the Business appointed for this Day be taken up To-morrow Morning.
