Prayers.
Margarett's Parish.
THE humble Petition of many Inhabitants of That Part of the Parish of Margarett's, Westminster, that is intended to be left to the now Parish Church, was this Day read: And
It is Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Members of this House, that are of the Committee for the Collegiate Church of Westminster, and the Committee for divding the Parishes (joined, as to this Business) to consider of this Petition; and to examine, What Means is now allowed to Margrett's Westminster Parish; What Means may be had from the Revenue of the late Dean, and Prebends of Westminster, without Prejudice to the Maintenance of the School, Scholars. Almsmen, and Officers of the College, towards the Maintenance of This, and the other intended Parishes; and, upon the Consideration of the Whole, to prepare and bring in an Ordinance for the Settling of all, and for providing a way of Maintenance for the said Parishes respectively; and fitting Houses out of those that were the late Prebends, for the Ministers.
Business deferred.
Ordered, That the Report from the Committee that was appointed to consider of the Business, concerning the Members of Tertio Caroli, and others that suffered then, be made on this Day Fortnight peremptorily, the first Business: And that the Petition of Alice Gilman, on the Behalf of herself, and Six Children, the Widow and Orphans of Bartholomew Gilman, of London, Merchant deceased, be referred to the Consideration of the said Committee; to report it on this Monday come Fortnight, together with the other Matters referred to that Committee, and ordered to be then reported.
League and Covenant.
Mr. John Thyn, Mr. Bennett Hoskins, Mr. Edmond Weaver, Mr. Robert Andrews, Mr. John Doyley, Mr. John Bowyer, Mr. Michaell Biddulph, Mr. Henry Hungerford, Sir Richard Lucy, Mr. Samuel Gardiner, Mr. Thomas Middleton, Sir John Seymor, Edward Lord Clynton, Mr. Thomas Dacres, Mr. Robert Shapcott, Mr. Erasmus Erle, Mr. John Dodridge, this Day took the National League and Covenant.
Preacher excused.
Mr. Calamy, who was desired to preach on the Tenth Day of March next, being set apart for a Day of Humiliation, to be humbled for the great Growth of Errors and Heresies, desiring to be excused;
Preacher appointed.
It is Ordered, That Mr. Calamy be excused: And that Mr. Burges be desired to preach on the said Tenth Day of March next, before the Commons: And that Sir Peter Wentworth do give him Notice of this Order of the House.
The Covenant.
Ordered, upon the Question, That all Members of the House that have not yet taken the Covenant in the House, that are in Town, or shall be in Town, the next Fast Day, shall have Notice to be here; and take the Covenant then peremptorily: And that the Serjeant do give them Notice hereof.
Publick Fast.
An Ordinance for publishing the Resolutions and Order of both Houses for the setting apart Wednesday the Tenth Day of March next for a Day of publick Humiliation, to be humbled thereon, for the Spreading and Growth of Errors and Heresies; and to seek God's Assistance for the Suppressing of the great Growth of Errors and Heresies; was this Day read the First and Second time.
And the Question being put, For the Commitment of it;
It passed with the Negative.
And then the Question being put, For passing the Ordinance;
The Ordinance passed, upon the Question: And it is ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.
Mr. Tate is appointed to carry it to the Lords.
Preacher appointed.
Ordered, That Mr. Hodges be desired to preach on the Tenth Day of March next, being set apart for a Day of publick Humiliation, to be humbled for the Growth and Spreading of Errors and Heresies; Mr. Burges, formerly appointed, desiring to be excused: And that Sir Christofer Yelverton do give Notice hereof to Mr. Hodges.
Sheriffs.
Ordered, That the Reports concerning Sheriffs be made To-morrow Morning, the first Business.
Oxford University.
Ordered, That on Wednesday next, the next Business after that the Reports concerning the Obstructions in the settling the Government of the Church shall be made, the House do take into Consideration the Ordinance concerning the regulating the University of Oxon.
Commissioners to Scotland.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of this House that are of the Committee of both Kingdoms, to prepare Instructions for the Earl of Stamford, Mr. Robert Goodwyn, and Mr. Wm. Ashurst, to be employed Commissioners from both Houses to the Parliament of Scotland.
Bill of Exchange.
Ordered, That the Committee of the Revenue do accept and comply with the Bill of Exchange charged upon that Committee, and returned from the Commissioners employed into the North; and is for Monies expended by them upon the Entertainment of the Hostages.
Massie's Brigade.
Ordered, That the Petition, concerning the Forces of Major General Massie's Brigade, be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning, the first Business.
Message from Lords.
A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Dr. Heath;
The Lords have commanded us to put this House in mind of the Business formerly sent to this House, concerning the Lord Roberts to be Governor of the Isle of Silly: And likewise of the Earl of Mulgrave's Petition.
They have sent down an Order concerning the Pix, in which they desire the Concurrence of this House.
They desire to put the House in mind of Mr. Pennoyer's Ordinance.
They do especially recommend Mr. Bond's Petition to this House; his Case being very lamentable.
They have sent an Ordinance for Mr. Thornton to be Clerk of the Wardrobe to the Prince; and desire Concurrence of this House.
They have sent an Answer to the Commissioners of the Church of Scotland; and desire the Concurrence of this House.
They have sent a Vote, for Sir James Barry to be a Privy Counsellor in Ireland; and desire the Concurrence of this House.
They have sent Mr. Hacker's Petition to be discharged from being Sheriff of the County of Nottingham.
Governor of Silly.
Ordered, That this Part of the Message, concerning the Governor of the Isle of Silly, be taken into Consideration on Thursday Sevennight.
Sir J. Barry.
The Vote for making Sir James Barry Knight to be Counsellor of State for the Kingdom of Ireland was read; and nothing done upon it.
Ordered, That the Sum of Two hundred Pounds be forthwith paid unto Sir James Barry, by the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, for and towards his present Subsistence: And that the Acquittance of the said Sir James Barry, or his Assigns, be a good Discharge unto the said Committee, and the Treasurers there, for the Payment thereof, accordingly.
The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs, to examine, What was the Cause Sir James Barry was sent for out of Ireland; and to report the same to the House.
Reports, &c. deferred.
Ordered, That the Report and the Ordinance concerning Mr. Pennoyer and Mr. Hill, be taken into Consideration on Thursday Morning next, the first Business: And that no other Business do then intervene. And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind hereof.
Ordered, That the Report concerning Mr. Peck, a Member of this House, be reported on Thursday Morning, the next Business after the Ordinance and Report for Mr. Pennoyer and Mr. Hill.
