Leave of Absence.

ORDERED, That the Lord Carre and Mr. John Gurdon, Members of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Sale of Guards Coats.

Ordered, That it be left to the Committee for Whitehall, to make Sale of the Guards Coats at Whitehall to the best Advantage they can; and to employ the Proceed of the said Coats, according to former Order.

Convoys.

The humble Petition of divers Merchants of the City of London, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be, in especial Manner recommended to the Committee of the Admiralty, to call some of the Petitioners before them; and, with them, to consider of some effectual and expeditious Way to redress the Inconveniencies and Mischiefs represented in the Petition; and to settle some good Remedy to prevent the like Mischiefs for the future; and to clear the Coasts of all Parts, and secure the trading Shipping of the Kingdom: And the Committee of the Admiralty is to meet and consider of the Petition this Afternoon.

Trade.

Ordered, That the Grand Committee of the whole House for Trade be revived, according to the former Powers given to that Committee; and do sit To-morrow at Two post meridiem: And that they do continue to sit every Tuesday in every Week; and consider of all fitting Ways and Means for Advance and Preservation of Trade, and for removing all Obstructions in it: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records; and to receive Petitions, Informations, and such other Matters as may best conduce to the Advance and Preservation of Trade.

It is further Ordered, That the Propositions now tendered, concerning Trade, be referred to the Consideration of this Committee.

Deputy Registers of Chancery.

Whereas by Order of this House, of the Nine-andtwentieth Day of January last, Rowland Wilson, and Ralph Hall, Gentlemen, are constituted and appointed Deputy Registers of the High Court of Chancery; and that the then Commissioners of the Great Seal of England should settle them in the said Offices, accordingly: It is Ordered, That the said Order, of the Nine-and-twentieth Day of January last, be renewed to the now Commissioners of the Great Seal of England, to settle the said Rowland Wilson, and Ralph Hall, in the said Offices of Deputy Registers of the said High Court of Chancery.

Berwick Town.

A Letter from the Commissioners of Parliament, residing in Scotland, from Edinburgh, of 14 Martii, 1647; with the Copies of Two Letters inclosed, of the Thirteenth and Fourteenth of March, to the Mayor and Corporation of Berwicke; and a Letter from the said Town, in Answer, upon Information of a Design to surprise the said Town of Berwick; as likewise, upon this Occasion, the Copy of a Letter from our Commissioners to the Parliament of Scotland; were all this Day read.

Meetings of Delinquents, &c.

Ordered, That Sir Arthure Hesilrige do speak with the General; and desire him to give Orders, That there may be that effectual Care taken, that Meetings and Assemblings together of Delinquents, Cavaliers, or others, that may tend to the Surprisal of any Places of Strength in the Northern Parts, or to the Prejudice of the Quiet and Peace of those Parts, or to the Disturbance of the Peace and Union between the Kingdoms, or to give any Jealousies thereof, may be prevented.

Committees of Sequestrations.

Ordered, That Sir Arthure Hesilrige, Governor of Newcastle, and Mr. George Fenwicke, be added to all the Committees and Commissioners of Sequestrations within the Counties and Places within the Four Northern Counties.

Berwick Town.

Ordered, Tha-the Committee at Derby House do prepare Letters to be signed by Mr. Speaker, to be sent to our Commissioners in Scotland, in Answer to theirs; and likewise a Letter to the Mayor and Corporation of Berwicke, to take Notice of their Care for the Preservation of their Town from Surprize; and to give them Thanks for it; and encourage them to persevere in the same; with Care had to the Observation and keeping inviolable the Articles of the large Treaty, and the Union between the Kingdoms upon the Treaties.

Admiralty.

An Ordinance for settling the Jurisdiction of the Court of the Admiralty, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Mr. Selden, Colonel Morley, Mr. Prideaux, Mr. Marten, Mr. Bence, Mr. Snelling, Mr. Challoner, Lord Mounson, Mr. Sallway junior, Sir Harbottle Grimston, Sir John Danvers, Colonel Thompson, Alderman Soame, Mr. Thinne, Sir Anthony Irby, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Hatcher, Mr. Jephson, Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Roll, Mr. Rous, Sir Ben. Rudyard, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Nath. Stephens, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Edw. Ash, Sir Tho. Wroth, Sir Dudley North, Mr. Vassall, Mr. Love, Sir Hen. Heyman, Sir Wm. Pelliteer's, &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of John Pelliteer, and John Peterson, Sailmaker, of Zeland, in the United Provinces, in the Behalf of themselves, and the rest of the West India Company there, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the former Committee, appointed for the Ordinance concerning the Jurisdiction of the Admiralty, to take it into speedy Consideration; and report their Opinions for some Remedy in this Business.

Braine's, &c. Petition.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of Arnold Braines, James Pykering, Thomas Tyddeman, Phinees Andrewes, and Edward Nelson, Merchants be referred to the Committee appointed to consider of the Ordinance concerning the Jurisdiction of the Admiralty; to take it into speedy Consideration; and to report their Opinions for Remedy in this Business.

Lord Grey's Arrears.

Upon Mr. Martyn's Report from the Committee appointed for Major Generals;

It is Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Committee, That Eight Pounds per diem is a competent Sum to be allowed to the Lord Grey, as Major General, during the Time of his Employment: That the Lord Grey having continued, as by the Report appears, in actual Service, the Space of Six hundred and Forty Days; the Entertainment, according to that Rate, amounteth to the Sum of Five thousand One hundred and Twenty Pounds.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five thousand One hundred and Twenty Pounds due unto the Lord Grey, as Major General, and in Satisfaction of all Demands and Dues demandable by the said Lord Grey, be paid unto him the said Lord Grey, or his Assigns, out of the Sequestration of the Earl of Chesterfeild's Estate: And the several and respective Committees or Commissioners, Sequestrators, Solicitors, and Treasurers, in the several Counties where the said Estate, or any Part thereof, lies, are hereby authorized and required to take Notice of this Order; and to pay unto the said Lord Grey, or his Assigns, the Rents and Profits arising from the said sequestered Estates, from time to time as they shall grow due, until the said Sum of Five thousand One hundred and Twenty Pounds be fully paid and satisfied: And the Acquittance of the said Lord Grey, or his Assigns, shall be, from time to time, a sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the said Committees or Commissioners, Sequestrators, Solicitors, and Treasurers, as likewise to the Tenants, for so much as shall be paid and received by the said Lord Grey, or his Assigns, by virtue of this Order.

Ordered, That Mr. George Fenwicke shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Customs.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Vane junior be added to the Committee for the Customs: And that the said Committee, or any Five of them, shall have Power to meet upon that Business.

Darley's Petition.

Ordered, That, on Wednesday, the first Business, the Petition of Sir Richard Darley Knight be read, and taken into Consideration.

Articles.

Ordered, That, To-morrow Morning, the first Business, nothing intervening, the Report concerning Articles be proceeded in.

Soldiers Pay in I. of Wight.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Revenue, and the Committee of the Army, respectively, forthwith to issue out a Month's Pay for the Soldiers in the Isle of Wight: And that the said Committees respectively, do take care, that the Governor of the Isle of Wight have, from time to time, imprested unto him, and remaining in his Hands, a Month's Pay: And that the Committee of the Revenue do give effectual Order to the Receiver General, That notwithstanding any other Warrants he shall at any time receive, Care be taken, that this Order be complied with: And that, for so much as concerns that Committee, the Governor may continually have a Month's Pay beforehand.

King's Attendants.

Ordered, That it be especially referred to the Committee of the Revenue, to consider of some Satisfaction to be made to the Four Gentlemen attending the Person of the King at Carisbrooke Castle; and to settle some constant Allowance for their Encouragement in that Trust and Employment: And the Committee of the Revenue is to make Report of these Matters To-morrow Morning.

Chancellor of Lancaster, &c.

An Ordinance of Parliament, for Delivery of the Seals of the Duchy of Lancaster, and County Palatine of Lancaster, to Sir Gilbert Gerard, and to swear Sir Gilbert Gerard Chancellor of the said Duchy of Lancaster, and County Palatine of Chester, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed.

Ordered, The Lords Concurrence be desired herein.
