MR. John Ashe reports Fines and Compositions from the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall: Whereupon it is resolved, &c. as followeth; viz.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Merrifield, of Croke Kerne in the County of Somersett, Counsellor at Law: His Offence, That he adhered unto and assisted the Forces raised against the Parliament: He rendered upon the Articles of Exeter: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Eighty Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence; for Three Lives, after Two Lives, per Annum, Eight Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence; in Fee, after One Life, per Annum, One Pound; in Fee after Three Lives, per Annum, Four Pounds; in old Rents, per Annum, Four Pounds Two Shillings; for Two Lives, per Annum, Three Pounds; personal Estate, Sixty-nine Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Two hundred Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto John Merrifield, of Croke Kerne in the County of Somersett, Counsellor at Law, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Four thousand Eight hundred Threescore-and-one Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Robert Sutton, of Averham in the County of Nottingham, Esquire: His Offence, That, being a Member of the honourable House of Commons, he deserted the Parliament, and lived in Newcastle whilst it was a Garison held against the Parliament: He rendered upon the Articles of Newark: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Eighty-six Pounds; for his own Life, per Annum, One thousand Five hundred and Forty-four Pounds; in Right of his Wife, for her Life, per Annum, Two hundred Pounds; personal Estate, One hundred and Twenty Pounds: Out of which issues, for One Life, per Annum, Ninety-two Pounds; for Two Lives, per Annum, Twenty Pounds; for ever, per Annum, Fourteen Pounds Ten Shillings and Three-pence: Which, being allowed, leaves the Five, at a Third, Four thousand Eight hundred and Sixty-one Pounds.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Twelve thousand One hundred and Twenty Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Sir Gervase Clifton, in the County of Nottingham, Knight, and Baronet: His Offence, That, being some time a Member of the House of Commons, he deserted the Parliament, and went to Oxford, and sat in the Assembly there; and was in Newark at the Time of the Surrender, and craves the Benefit of those Articles: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Seventytwo Pounds Six Shillings and Three-pence; for Life, per Annum, Two thousand Four hundred and Thirty-six Pounds Fourteen Shillings; in Fee-tail, per Annum, Thirty-eight Pounds; for Three Lives, per Annum, Sixtyfour Pounds; for Ten Years, One hundred and Thirtyfive Pounds; in Reversion, per Annum, Forty-eight Pounds: Out of which issues for Two Lives, per Annum, Ten Pounds; for ever, per Annum, Four Pounds; for Eleven Years, per Annum, Ten Pounds; for One Life, Forty-three Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence; and he is indebted Four thousand Pounds, as he allegeth: The Fine, at Two-thirds, is Twelve thousand One hundred and Twenty Pounds.

Ordered, That Sir Edmund Fowell, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, That Bull, the Serjeant's Man, be discharged from any further Restraint.

Ordered, That Mr. Harris, of Martin's Parish in the Fields, committed by former Order of this House, be forthwith discharged from any further Restraint.

Norcliff's Children.

Resolved, &c. That the Children of Sir Thomas Norcliff shall have the Benefit of the Sequestration of Sir Gervase Clifton's Estate, until the Sum of Three thousand Pounds be fully and clearly satisfied, or until the said Sir Gervase Clifton shall pay his Fine; and that then what shall remain so unpaid shall be received out of his Fine: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Northern Association, to prepare and bring in an Ordinance to this Purpose.

East India Company.

The humble Petition of the Governor and Company of Merchants of London, trading into the East Indies, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for removing Obstructions in Trade where Mr. Scott has the Chair, to state the whole Business; and report it to the House, with all convenient Speed.

Levant Company.

The humble Petition of the Governor and Company of Merchants, trading the Levant Seas, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for removing Obstructions in Trade where Mr. Scott has the Chair: And they are to state the Business to the House, with their Opinions, What they think fit to be done for the Support and Advance of Trade and Shipping: And that the Toll, now complained of, to be laid upon Shipping employed into those Parts, be referred to the Consideration of this Committee: And they are to make Report of these Matters, with all Speed, to the House.

It is further Ordered, That all the Members of this House that serve for any of the Port Towns, or Cinque Ports, be added to this Committee, as to the Business of these Two Petitions from the East India and Turky Company.

Business to be done.

Ordered, That, To-morrow, after the Reports of Goldsmiths Hall, the first Business, notwithstanding any former Order, Colonel White do make Report, from the Grand Committee, of the Votes and Resolutions concerning the regulating, and more speedily and orderly bringing in the Sequestration Profits: And, next, that Sir Henry Mildmay do make Report of the Business concerning the Receiver of Yorkshire: And that no Report, or other Business, be made or considered, but what may conduce to bring in Monies to the Service of the Navy.

Judges Salaries.

An Ordinance, appointing a Salary to the Judges, and disabling them to receive any other Profit or Perquisites, by Occasion of their Offices, was this Day read the First time; and appointed to be read the Second time, between the Hours of Ten and Twelve, on Saturday next.

Ly. Obryan's Petition.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Heath and Dr. Aylett;

The Lords have received a Petition from the Lady Honora Obryan, and do think it Reason, that she should receive Relief from the Estate of the Person that did her Wrong: And do recommend the Petitioner to this House, to take her into speedy Consideration for Relief; she being a Lady of very great Honour, and in great Necessity.

The humble Petition of Dame Honora Obrien, one of the Daughters of the late Earl of Thomond, deceased, was read; and ordered to be referred to the Consideration of the Committee where Mr. Wheeler has the Chair: And they are to meet this Afternoon; and so de die in diem: And any Five of them have Power to meet: And all that will come, are to have Voices at this Committee.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Dr. Heath;

The Lords do recommend the Petition of Major General Sterling, and Colonel Mershall: The Lords think fit, That these Gentlemen, having adventured their Lives in the Service of the Parliament, should partake of the Benefit of the Indemnity, as well as others. They send an Ordinance for Repair of the Church of Taynton in the County of Gloucester; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House: An Ordinance for passing to Sir Nath. Brent the Place of Judge of the Prerogative, under the Great Seal.-To put you in mind of the Petition of the Lord Cromwell: which they desire may be granted.

Sterlyng's &c. Petition.

The Petition of Major General Sterlyng and Lieutenant Colonel Mershall was read: And

Ordered, That this Business be taken into Consideration on this Day Sevennight.

Taynton Church.

The Ordinance for rebuilding the Church of Taynton in Com' Gloucester, now sent from the Lords, was read; and, upon the Question, passed.

Judge of the Prerogative Court.

The Ordinance for passing the Grant of Judge of the Prerogative to Sir Nathaniel Brent, now sent from the Lords, under the Great Seal, was read; and nothing done upon it at this time.

Lord Cromwell's Petition.

The Petition from the Lord Cromwell, formerly sent from the Lords, was read; and nothing done upon it.

Answers to Lords.

Answer returned by the first Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Answer returned by the Second Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message: And, to the Ordinance concerning the Building of a Parish Church in Taynton in Com' Gloucester, they do agree: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Eyres', &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of Colonel Wm. Eyres, Lieutenant Colonel Sadler, and others, was this Day read; And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Consideration of the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, to examine the Matter of Fact; and to report it to the House: And that then the House will take this Business into further Consideration.

Message to Lords.

Colonel Jophson carried to the Lords for their Concurrence, the Votes for appointing Persons to be Sheriffs of Brecon, Carnarvon, Radnour, Carmarthen, and Berks: An Order for a Thousand Pounds to be sent into Munster in Ireland: An Order concerning general Collections in Churches, not to be put under the Great Seal, directed by both Houses: An Order, prohibiting the transporting of Wools of the Growth of Ireland: An Order to prohibit the Transportation of Wool and Fullers Earth.

He returned an Addition, made by this House, to the Proviso, sent from the Lords, to the Ordinance for raising Fifty thousand Pounds for the Service of Ireland: Divers additional Names to be added to the Committee of Indemnity: An Order for the Solicitor General to prepare a Patent, to pass the Great Seal, for making Dr. Hill Master of Trinity College.

Answer.

Colonel Jephson brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Exception (returned by this House to the Proviso in the Ordinance for raising Fifty thousand Pounds for Ireland) of the House in the Possession of Major General Phil. Skippon in Long Acre: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Raising Money.

Ordered, That this Ordinance be forthwith printed and published: And that it be referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House, to nominate Commissioners, and take care for putting the said Ordinance in Execution; that Monies may be raised and brought in upon the said Ordinance.

Wither's Petition.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, Major Whither's Petition, and the Report concerning his Business, be made.

Grant to Ly. Fairefax.

Whereas the Sum of One thousand Five hundred Pounds was, by former Order of the Sixteenth of January 1646, assigned to the Lady Fairefax, Relict of Sir Wm. Fairefax Knight, slain in the Parliament's Service, to issue, and be paid, out of the Composition and Fine of Sir Henry Griffith: And whereas the said Sir Henry Griffith doth not, to Effect, prosecute the said Composition: It is therefore Ordered, That the said Lady Fairefax, or such Trustees whom the shall appoint, shall receive the full Advantage, Profits, and Rents, of the Estate of the said Sir Henry Griffith, until the said Sum of One thousand Five hundred Pounds be fully and clearly satisfied and paid unto the said Lady Fairefax, or her Assigns, out of the said Rents and Profits; or until the said Sir Henry Griffith shall make and perfect his Composition at Goldsmiths Hall. And it is further Ordered, That so much of the said Sum of One thousand Five hundred Pounds as shall be unsatisfied, and unpaid, out of the Revenues and Profits of the Sequestration of the Estate of the said Sir Henry Grifsith, shall be paid out of the Composition and Fine of the said Sir Henry Griffith, to the * said Lady Fairefax, or her Assigns: And that the Acquittance or Acquittances of the said Lady Fairefax, or her Assigns, shall be a sufficient Warrant and Discharge, as well to the Commissioners, Committees, Sequestrators, and other Persons intrusted or employed to receive or dispose the Profit, Rent, and Revenue, arising from the Estate of the said Sir Henry Griffith, in the several Counties where it lies, as to the Treasurers at Goldsmiths Hall, for so much as shall be received and paid to the said Lady Fairefax, or her Assigns, out of the Composition and Fine of the said Sir Henry Griffith.

Contractors Salary.

Ordered, That, on Saturday Morning next, the Ordinance concerning the Contractors Salary be read the Second time.

Sheriff of Northampton.

Ordered, That Richard Andrew, of Thorpe Underwood in the County of Northampton, Esquire, nominated and appointed by both Houses to be Sheriff of the said County, shall have Liberty to come out of his County to London, upon his Occasions.

Sheriff of Kent.

Ordered, That Sir Stephen Scott, nominated and appointed by both Houses to be Sheriff of the County of Kent, shall have Liberty to come out of his County to London, upon his Occasions.

Grundy's Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Captain Ralphe Grundy be referred to the Examination and Consideration of the Committee of Complaints.
