Prayers.

Message to Lords.

ORDERED, upon the Question, That a Message be sent to the Lords, to desire them to hasten the Ordinance concerning the Militia; and the other Ordinances, long since sent to them, concerning the Propositions.

Sir William Strickland is appointed to go to the Lords with this Message: And is to put the Lords likewise in mind of the Vote touching the determining the Plymouth Duty: And is to carry to the Lords the Ordinance for Assessments, for Maintenance of the Army under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairfax; and the Ordinance for continuing the Committee and Treasurers at War: The Ordinance for appointing Mathew Lock Comptroller of the Customs in the Port of Southampton; and the Order for Two hundred Pounds for Colonel Aldriche.

Delinquents.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Widdrington do, To-morrow, report the Ordinance concerning Delinquents in pursuance of the Propositions, according to former Order.

Delinquent Lawyers, &c.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Allenson do, To-morrow, report the Ordinance concerning inhibiting Delinquent Lawyers, Common and Civil Attornies and Solicitors, to practise.

Consession of Faith.

According to former Order, the humble Advice of the Assembly of Divines, concerning the Residue of that Confession of Faith, whereof they lately presented a Part, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Six hundred Copies, and no more, of the Advice of the Assembly of Divines, presented to this House, concerning a Confession of Faith, be forthwith printed, for the Service of both Houses, and the Assembly of Divines, without annexing the Texts of Scripture for the present (yet, notwithstanding, the House doth expect that the Divines should send in the Texts of Scripture with all convenient Speed:) And that the Care of Printing thereof be referred to the Assembly of Divines: And the Printer is enjoined, at his Peril, not to print more than Six hundred Copies of them; or to divulge or publish any of them: That no Person do presume to re-print, divulge, or publish, the said Advice, or any Part of it, till further Order be taken herein by Both or Either of the Houses of Parliament.

Ordered, That Mr. Selden and Mr. Tate do, in like manner as formerly, take care that some Preamble be prefixed to the Printing of the whole Confession of Faith, to shew that they are now printed only for the Uses of the Houses of Parliament, and the Divines of the Assembly; and not to be published as yet.

Thirty-nine Articles.

Ordered, That the Assembly of Divines be desired with all Speed, to send to the House all that they have done upon the Nine-and-thirty Articles, together with the Texts of Scripture annexed.

Mr. Rous and Mr. Selden are appointed to acquaint the Assembly of Divines with this Desire of the House.

Ordered, That, according to the former Order made in that Business, the Divines be desired speedily to send in their Answer to the Queries sent unto them from this House.

Mr. Rous and Mr. Selden are appointed to acquaint the Divines of the Assembly herewith.

Oxford University.

Mr. Selden reports the Amendments and Proviso to the Ordinance sent from the Lords, concerning the University of Oxon: The which were twice read; and the Proviso only, upon the Question, assented unto: And then the Ordinance, with the Proviso, upon the Question, passed.

Mr. Selden is appointed to carry to the Lords the Concurrence of this House to this Ordinance concerning the said University; with a Proviso: In which he is to desire the Lords Concurrence.

Grant for Scotch Army.

Mr. Wm. Pierepoint carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Proposition, passed this House on Saturday last, to be an Instruction to the Committee appointed to confer with the Commissioners of Scotland, upon the Manner of the Payment of the Monies to our Brethren of Scotland, upon the Marching of their Forces out of the Kingdom; and likewise the Vote for giving the Publick Faith to be a Security for the latter Two hundred thousand Pounds.

Mr. Pierpoint brings Answer, That the Lords do agree both to the Instruction, and to the Vote for the Publick Faith to be given for Security for the latter Two hundred thousand Pounds.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Walter Strickland, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, That Mr. Waddon shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Grant for Scotch Army.

Ordered, That the Committee formerly appointed to confer with the Commissioners of Scotland, upon the Manner of the Payment of the First Two hundred thousand Pounds to our Brethren of Scotland, and the Marching of their Forces out of this Kingdom, do, this Afternoon, meet with the said Commissioners; and confer with them upon these Businesses, according to the Instruction this Day passed both Houses: And that they do likewise acquaint them with the Vote of both Houses, touching the Publick Faith, that is to be given unto them, for Security of the last Two hundred thousand Pounds: And they are to make Report of All, To-morrow Morning.

Invalid Soldiers.

The humble Petition of above Two hundred wounded and sick Soldiers in the Savoy Hospital was this Day read.

Sir Gilbert Pickering presented to the House the humble Petition of Elizabeth Starky Widow, and Samuell Leadbetter, Apothecaries to the sick and wounded Soldiers of the Savoy Hospital and Parsons Green. And

It is Ordered, That the Sum of One thousand Pounds be paid by the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, out of the Fine or Composition of any such Delinquent as shall be presented to the said Committee by the Treasurers for maimed Soldiers; to be employed for the Payment of such Debts as are due to Physicians, Surgeons, and Apothecaries, employed in the Cure of maimed and sick Soldiers that have been wounded in the Service of the Parliament: And that the said One thousand Pounds be paid to the said Treasurers for maimed Soldiers: Whose Acquittance shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, and to the Treasurers there, for the Payment thereof accordingly.

Ordered, That the Sum of Two hundred Pounds be paid by the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall unto such Person or Persons as the Committee for Prisoners shall appoint to receive the same; to be employed for the Payment of such Debts as are due to Surgeons, or others, for the Cureing of such sick and wounded Soldiers as were sent up to London, and healed of their Wounds, after the Battle at Naseby: And that the Acquittance of such Person or Persons, so to be appointed to receive the same by the said Committee for Prisoners, shall be a good Discharge to the said Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, and the Treasurers there, for the Payment of the said Two hundred Pounds accordingly.

Reports to be made.

Ordered, That the Reports from Goldsmiths Hall be made To-morrow Morning, the first Business: And that (notwithstanding any other Order) no other Business do intervene. And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind hereof.

Oxford University.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for Regulation of the University of Oxford be read on Friday Morning, the first Business.

Norwich Writ.

Resolved, &c. That a Warrant be issued, under the Hand of Mr. Speaker, directed to the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, for the Issuing of a Writ, for the Election of a Burgess to serve for the City of Norwich, in the place of Mr. Harman, late a Member of this House, deceased.

Persons sent for.

Resolved, &c. That Sir William Russel, John Prideaux late Bishop of Worcester, and Mr. Edward Soly late Mayor of Worcester, be forthwith sent for, in safe Custody.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to deliver unto you this Report from the Committee of the Admiralty and Cinque Ports; whereupon they have framed this Ordinance (It is for Impresting of Ships for Transportation of Men, Victuals, Arms, and Ammunition, for Ireland): Wherein they desire your Concurrence; and that you take it into speedy Consideration, because of the present Necessity; the Soldiers lying at the Water's-side, and cannot be transported: And, to put you in mind of the Lord Edward Pawlett's Petition.

The Report was read: And likewise the Ordinance thereupon, was read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, passed.

Lord Pawlett.

Resolved, &c. That, to the Petition of Edward Lord Pawlett, this House will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Ordered, That the Lord Edward Pawlett's Petition be read the next Day whereon the House shall take private Petitions into Consideration.

Answer from Lords.

Sir William Strickland brings Answer, That, as to the Order for Two hundred Pounds out of Haberdashers Hall to Colonel Aldriche, they do agree: And, as to the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Staffordshire Forces.

The Question was propounded, Whether the Committee of Staffordshire shall have Two thousand Pounds out of the Compositions of Staffordshire Delinquents at Goldsmiths Hall; and Two thousand Pounds out of the Compositions of Ashby; for the Disbanding of their Forces, and sending such of them into Ireland as are to go.

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put;

Marquis of Winton.

Ordered, upon the Question, That it be referred to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Sequestrations, to apportion, Out of what Lands the Five Pounds and Ten Pounds per Week, assigned for the Support of the Marquis of Winton, and of the Lady Marchioness of Winton, shall issue.

It is further Ordered, That it be referred to the said Committee, to take care and provide that the Children of the said Marquis and Marchioness may not be educated in the Popish Religion.

Blasphemies, &c.

Ordered, upon the Question, That, on Monday next, the first Business, the House do meet in a Committee, to take into Consideration the Ordinance for punishing and preventing the Growth and Spreading of Blasphemies and Heresies.

Ordered, That the Committee of this House for the Great Seal do meet this Afternoon with the Committee of Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to acquaint you, that they have appointed a Committee of Twelve Lords, and they desire you to appoint a proportionable Number of this House, to meet on Tuesday next, at Three of Clock in the Afternoon, in the Prince's Lodgings; to consult of such Ways and Means as may prevent any Dangers to the Cities of London and Westminster, by the Multitude of disaffected Persons continuing in and about the said Cities, according to this Paper.

They have sent you a Petition of Captain Samuell Thomson; which they recommend to your Consideration:

And this Petition of Mrs. Frances Ashburnham, together with the Lords Desires thereupon in this Order; to which they desire your Concurrence.

The Paper from the Lords was read-And was in hæc verba;

Disaffected in London.

"The Lords have taken into their Consideration the present great Resort and Abode of such as have expressed their Disaffection to the Parliament; and have thought fit to appoint a Committee of Twelve Lords, and desire the House of Commons to appoint a proportionable Number of their Members, that may meet on Tuesday next, in the Prince's Lodgings, at Three of the Clock in the Afternoon; that they may consult of such Ways and Means as may prevent the Danger and Inconveniences which may come to the Parliament, and the Cities of London and Westminster, by their still Continuance in and about the said Cities; and to report their Opinions to the Houses respectively: The Committee to have Power to adjourn themselves, from time to time, after the First Meeting."-;
