PRAYERS.

Ship Sea horse.

ORDERED, That the humble Petition of Rob. Anderson, Master of the Ship called the Sea-horse, and other the Owners and Adventurers therein, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Navy.

Wardour Castle.

Ordered, That the Letter this Day received from Sir Edw. Hungerford and Mr. Strode, concerning Wardour Castle, be referred to the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom; other to slight it, or to garison it, as they shall find Occasion; and to consider of disposing of the Prisoners; and to give an Account to the House on Friday Morning.

Observance of Lord's Day.

Ordered, That the former Order, for the better observing the Lord's Day, be renewed and revived; and the Execution of it committed and entrusted with the Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Middlesex, and of all other Counties.

Redding Garrison.

A Letter from my Lord General, of the Eleventh of May, concerning the Importance of the Town of Redding, and the securing of it, upon my Lord General's Removal from thence, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That this House holds it fit and necessary, that a Garison of Twelve hundred Foot, and a Troop of Horse, be sent into Redding, for the Security and Defence of that Town.

Ordered, That Serjeant Major Witham, Commander of Farnham Castle, in the County of Surrey, do command a Captain, with a hundred Men, to march presently away to Reding; and that Sir Rich. Onslowe do give Order for the Payment of a Month's Pay to that Company, out of the Monies raised upon the Contribution in that County; which Pay is to be entered into the Auditor's Book, upon Account.

Ordered, That Mr. Vassall, Mr. Glyn, Mr. Strode, Sir H. Vane, Mr. Hobby, Mr. Marten, and the Committee for signing Warrants for Monies, do this Afternoon communicate this Letter from my Lord General, concerning Reading, to the Committee for the Militia, and the Committees for raising Volunteers; and treat with them, concerning the sending of Supplies of Forces into Reading, according to the Intimation and Opinion of my Lord General.

Resolved, &c. That Jo. Brooke be forthwith sent for, as a Delinquent, by the Serjeant at Arms.

Deputy Lieutenants.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Philip Calthrop, Samuel Smyth, and Tho. Southerton, Esquires, to be Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Norfolke: And that the Lords Concurrence be desired herein.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Tho. Tirrcll de Gipprig, Nath. Bacon de Ipstrich, Edm. Harvy, and Fr. Brewster the younger, Esquires, to be Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Suffolk: And that the Lords Concurrence be desired herein.

Resolved, &c. That the House doth nominate and approve of Sir Rich. Sprignall Baronet; to be one of the Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Middlesex.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Sir Isaac Sedley, to be one of the Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Kent.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Tho. Payton be sent for in safe Custody.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Tate went up to the Lords, to desire them to speed their Answer to the Declaration delivered unto them at a late Conference upon the Results of the Treaty.

He likewise carried up the additional Names of the Deputy Lieutenants for the Counties of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Answer.

Mr. Tate brings Answer, that the Lords will take the Declaration into a speedy Consideration, and send Answer by Messengers of their own; And they do agree to the Gentlemen nominated Deputy Lieutenants for the Counties of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Simonds D'Ewes be forthwith sent for to attend the Service of the House.

Great Seal.

Resolved, &c. That the Great Seal of England ought, by the Laws of the Land, to attend the Parliament.

Resolved, &c. That the Great Seal of England doth not attend the Parliament, as, by the Laws of the Land, it ought to do.

Resolved, &c. That by reason of the Great Seal of England hath not attended the Parliament, according to the Laws, the Commonwealth hath suffered many grievous Mischiefs, tending to the Destruction of the King, Parliament, and Kingdom.

Resolved, &c. That it is the Duty of both Houses of Parliament, to provide a speedy Remedy for these Mischiefs.

Ordered, That, To-morrow Morning at Ten of Clock, the further Debate of this Business, concerning a Great Seal, shall be taken into Consideration; and that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

Raising Money.

Ordered, That this Report, now made from the Committee that is appointed to consider of raising Monies, by laying a Charge upon Commodities, be taken up To-morrow, if there shall be time; or otherwise, on Saturday Morning at Ten of Clock: And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind hereof.

Denham's Petition.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of Anne, the Wife of John Denham Esquire, be referred to the Examination of the Committee of this House for Sequestration, or any Three of them; and that, in the mean time, they shall have Power to deliver unto her her Childbed Linen, and such other Necessaries as they shall think fit.

Prisoners at Oxford.

Mr. Pierpoint, Mr. Whitlock, Sir Wm. Armyn, Sir John Holland, Sir Robert Harley, Mr. Waller, Sir Wm. Strickland, and Sir Nevil Poole, are appointed to meet this Afternoon, in the Court of Wards, to consider of the Letter from the Prisoners at Oxon; and of some speedy Remedy and Redress for them.

Lady Offaley's Assessment.

The humble Petition of the Right honourable Dame Lettice, Baroness of Offaley, was this Day read:

And it is Ordered, That in regard Mr. Pym hath undertaken to pay in such Monies to the Treasurer at Wars here, as shall grow due by the weekly Assessment, laid upon the Lands of the Lady Offaly, by the Ordinance of both Houses, that the Committees, in Warwickshire, for the weekly Assessment, do forbear the levying the Assessments laid upon the said Lands.

Weekly Assessments.

Ordered, That Mr. Trenchard and Mr. Wheeler do attend at Haberdashers Hall, twice every Week; to give Acquittances for such Monies, as shall be brought in upon the weekly Assessments.

Ditte.

Whereas, in and by an Ordinance of both Houses of Parliament, for the weekly Assessments, lately made, it is Ordained, That Three Pence in the Pound shall be allowed for every Sum of Money, which shall be collected and paid to the Treasurers or Receivers, according to the said Ordinance; Two-pence, whereof shall be allowed the Collectors; and the Residue, to such other Persons, as shall be employed in the said Service; according to the Discretion of the respective Committees, within their several Divisions, or any Two of them: It is this Day Ordered, by the Commons assembled in Parliament, That if any Person or Persons, assessed or to be assessed by virtue of the said Ordinance, shall not pay the same Assessments, before Distress made of their Goods, that then the said Allowance shall be paid and borne by the Persons assessed; and all Charges of Entry, Stowage, Cellerage, Appraising, and Sale of the said Goods so distrained; and all other Charges incident thereunto: For which Allowances and Charges the said Collectors shall have Power to distrain, and the Distress to sell, as well as for the Sums assessed: And that Person or Persons shall be appointed for Entry, Appraising and Sale of the said Goods to be distrained, as the respective Committees, in the said Ordinance mentioned, within their several Divisions, or any Two of them, shall appoint: And that such Goods, as shall be distrained of Persons assessed within the City of London, and Jurisdiction of the Lord Mayor, shall be carried to Guildhall, and there sold by the Candle, by such Person or Persons, as the Committees for the City of London, and Jurisdiction of the Lord Mayor, shall appoint: And, for Goods distrained in other Parts of the Kingdom, the same are to be sold in such manner, and by such Persons, and at such Places, as the respective Committees, in the said Ordinance mentioned, within their several Divisions, or any Two of them, shall appoint.
