Superstitious Monuments.

SIR Rob. Harley, Mr. Gurdon, Mr. Rous, Sir Gilb. Gerard, Mr. Bond, Mr. White, Mr. Moore, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Browne;

This Committee is to receive Information, from time to time, of any Monuments of Superstition or Idolatry in the Abbey Church at Westminster, or the Windows thereof, or in any other Church or Chapel, in or about London: And they have Power to demolish the same, where any such superstitious or idolatrous Monuments are informed to be: And all Churchwardens, and other Officers, are hereby required to be aiding and assisting in the Execution of this Order: And are to meet at Two a Clock this Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Warrant to Lord Dungarven.

Resolved, &c. That the Lord Dungarven shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to go to Oxford, and from thence into Ireland, with his Servants.

Person committed

A Letter from Cornet May, Cornet to Sir Mich. Livefey, was read; informing this House, that he had apprehended one Captain Ennis, a Priest, whom he found between the Rafter and Ceiling of the House, with his Surplice, Hood, Crucifix, &c.:

Ordered, That Captain Ennis be forthwith committed to the Compter in Southwarke, upon Suspicion of being a Popish Priest, and for taking up Arms against the Parliament; there to remain during the Pleasure of this House.

Prisoners in London.

Ordered, That a List be made by all the Keepers of Prisons in and about London, what Prisoners they have in their Custody; and to bring the same to Sir Rob. Harley; who is ordered to present the same to the House.

Affairs of Devon, &c.

A Letter, 17 Aprilis, from Sir George Chudley, and the rest of the Committee in Devon, informing the House, the Treaty with the Cornish was ended, and both Sides prepare for War: That they now find, by Letters intercepted, the Intention of the Cornish, from the Beginning, was to make no such End as they professed; but, for other respects, they desired the Treaty.

Devon Committees.

Ordered, That Mr. Prideaux, Mr. Perd, and Mr. Nicolls, Members of this House, and Mr. Gewin, shall be added to the Committees in the County of Devon, for the raising of Monies upon the Ordinance for the Twentieth Part.

Ordinance to be brought in.

Ordered, That Mr. * do bring in an Ordinance * *

Assisting Waller.

Ordered, That Sir Arthur Heselrigg, Mr. Serjeant Wilde, and Sir Jo. Clotworthy, do prepare a Declaration; what an acceptable Service it will be to the Publick, in those that shall assist Sir Wm. Waller.

Money for Army

Ordered, That Sir Jo. Clotworthy do bring in the Form of an Ordinance, for the further enabling of Colonel Cromwell to raise Monies for the Maintenance of the Forces under his Command.

Smith's Sequestration.

Ordered, That Mr. Adam Bowen, in Philpot Lane, London, do forthwith pay the Monies, remaining in his Hands, for the Wardship and Rents of one Robert Smith, unto the Treasurers for Subscriptions in Guildhall, upon the Propositions: And if he do refuse to do the same, that then the Serjeant, or his Deputy, do take him into Custody, till the Pleasure of the House be further known.

Passes granted.

Ordered, That Sir Jo. Holland shall have Mr. Speaker's Pass, for himself, and his Lady, and Servants, to pass beyond the Seas.

Ordered, That Sir Jo. Cutts, with one Servant, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass beyond Sea.

Declaration on the Treaty.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Glyn, Mr. Hollis, Sir H. Vaine, Mr. Martyn, Sir Wm. Armyn, Mr. Whitlocke, Sir Pet. Wentworth, Sir Gilb. Gerard, Mr. Perepointe, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Waller, Sir Robert Harley, Sir Walt. Erle, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Serjeant Wilde, Sir Jo. Clotworthy, Mr. Selden, Mr. Strode;

This Committee is appointed to prepare a Declaration, or Manifesto, of the whole State of the Proceedings of both Houses of Parliament, touching the Treaty; that it may be published for the Satisfaction of the World: And are to meet this Afternoon, at Two Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Answer to the King

The Answer prepared by the Lords, and communicated lately at Conference, concerning an Answer to the King's Two Messages, was read.

Southweld Minister.

The Ordinance for Sequestring the Living of Mr. Sam. Baker Doctor in Divinity, in the Parish of Southweld, in the County of Essex, (being a scandalous Minister) into the Hands of Sequestrators, for the Use and Benefit of Mr. Nicholas Falkingham Master of Arts; who is appointed to supply the said Cure; was read; and ordered accordingly: And that the Lords be moved to join herein.

Naval Affairs

A Letter from the Earl of Warwicke, 22 April, was read; informing the House of his Inability to send a Ship for the Relief of Barwicke, if Occasion be; by reason that he wants Men in some of his Ships.

Answer to the King.

The Question being put, whether this Answer, sent down from the Lords, to the King's Two Messages, shall be now considered, in Parts;

Dorsettshire.

Ordered, That Sir Walter Erle do bring in an Ordinance for Dorsettshire.

Isle of Wight, &c.

Mr. Lisle reports an Ordinance for the raising of Monies, to defend the Isle of Wight, and pay the Garisons at Portsmouth &c.: . . was read, and assented unto; and ordered to be sent up to the Lords.

Reformados.

Ordered, That Mr. Martyn report the Business concerning the Reformados.
