PRAYERS.

Letter read.

A LETTER from the Committee formerly sent to Oxon, and at Wicombe when the Letter was writ.

A Letter from my Lord General, of the Tenth of April, concerning Monies.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider of the State of the Monies and Plate seized by the Searchers at Gravesend, attempted to be transported into Scotland by Captain Moore, an Officer in the Army raised by the Parliament; and that they do bring in an Order for restoring of his Monies; and that they do consider of the Letter from my Lord General.

Searcher at Gravesend.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the Navy, to examine whether Ward, the Searcher at Gravesend, be gone to Oxon; and, if he be, to prepare an Ordinance for sequestering his Office; and to bring it in forthwith.

Privilege.

Resolved, &c. That Jo. Bewdith the elder, of Chardstock, in the Country of Dorsett Gent. be forthwith summoned, and brought up in safe Custody, to answer his Contempt, in entering upon certain Lands in the Possession of Sir Simonds d' Ewes, a Member of this House; notwithstanding that he knew that he was a Parliament Man, and within the Privilege of Parliament.

Irish Accounts.

Mr. Glyn; Mr. Millington, Sir Wm. Allanson, Mr. Ellis, Sir H. Anderson, Mr. Salloway, Sir H. Heyman, Sir Wm. Massam, Sir Rob. Harley, are added to the Committee for Ireland, where Sir H. Vane has the Chair: And That Committee, or any Four of them, has Power to sit: And they are to consider of, examine, and cause the Accounts to be made and perfected, by all that are Accomptants to the Purse of Ireland.

Irish Affairs.

A Letter from the Lords Justices of Ireland, of the Fourth of April, relating the Passages of the Earl of Ormond in his last Expedition to Rosse, and the Reasons of the Earl of Ormond quitting that Siege; and a Remonstrance of the English Officers; and a Letter from Tredagh, shewing what Success they had in an Expedition against the Rebels; and likewise, Two Letters concerning Londonderry, &c. were all this Day read, and referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, where Sir H. Vane has the Chair; to consider of them, and to prepare a Dispatch, in Answer of them.

Ship takes.

A Letter from Mr. Popkam, of the Fourteenth of April, from Minchead, relating the taking of a Ship at Sea by his Troop of Horse, and other Passages by them, was this Day read; and referred to the Committee, where Sir H. Vane has the Chair; to consider of so much as concerns Ireland, &c.

Provisions for Ireland.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the Navy, to consider of a Convoy to be sent with the Provisions, provided in Somersettshire, for Ireland.

Bowyer's House.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the taking and seizing of Mr. Bowyer's House in Somersettshire.

Ship taken.

Ordered, That the Goods, that were to be conveyed over by the Servants taken in the Ship taken by Mr. Edw. Popham's Soldiers, be seized and secured by Mr. Edw. Popham, Sir Tho. Wroth, Sir Fr. Popham, Mr. Pyme, Mr. Luttrell, or any two of them; and that if the Servants shall discover where these Goods are that then they be set at Liberty; taking the Protestation not to serve against any of the Forces raised by the Parliament: And that it be referred to the said Persons, or any two of them, to examine the Condition of the Ship, and the Goods in her; and if she belong to any of the Delinquents, that then she be sold, and the Proceed bestowed upon the Soldiers that took her.

Irish Affairs.

Ordered, That these Letters and Papers, this Day received from Ireland, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, where Sir H. Vane has the Chair: Who are to consider, what is fit to be done, upon the whole Matter contained in those Letters and Papers; and to present it to the House speedily.

Adjournment.

The Question being put, whether the House shall adjourn every other Day; and the Committees then sit;

Merchant Adventurers.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Merchant Adventurers Petition do meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Answer to King's Message, &c.

A Message from the Lords by Dr. Aylett and Dr. Heath;

The Lords do expect the Return of the Committees from Oxon this Day before Twelve of Clock; They do desire, that the Committees appointed to prepare an Answer to the King's Two last Messages may meet this Afternoon at Three of Clock: And they do intend to adjourn till Four of Clock this Afternoon.

Resolved, &c. That the House shall sit this Afternoon at Four of Clock.

Resolved, &c. That Answer shall be returned to the Lords, that the Committee formerly appointed shall meet the Committee of the Lords this Afternoon at Three of Clock; to consider of an Answer to be sent to the Two last Messages from his Majesty.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and have resolved, that the House shall meet this Afternoon at Four of Clock; and that the Committee formerly appointed shall meet with the Committee of the Lords this Afternoon at Three of Clock, to consider of an Answer to be made to the Two last Messages from his Majesty.

Message to Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewis is appointed to go to the Lords, to desire a Conference concerning the committing of Captain Player, for seizing, and not restoring, the Horses of Mr. Carew, of Marrowbone Park: And likewise, to desire, that the Name of Mr. Norton might be inserted in the stead of Sir Tho. Jervoise, in the Ordinance concerning Hantshire.

Prisoner discharged.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Jo. Miller formerly committed, for not paying the weekly Assessments; who has since conformed himself, and paid the said Assessments; be forthwith released and discharged.

Westminster Assessments.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of this House, for the weekly Assessments in the City of Westminster, and Liberties, to set at Liberty such, as, by their Report, shall be committed for refusing to pay the weekly Assessments; so soon as they shall conform themselves to pay the said Assessments.

Person committed by Lords.

Mr. Corbett reported, that the Committee for Examinations, being informed that Mr. Carew (a Man illaffected to the Parliament, who used to come often from the King's Army hither, as a Spy) being informed that he was lately come from Oxon, in a private Way; sent Captain Player, by virtue of an Order from them, to seize his Horses; and that accordingly he did seize Two Horses of his: That the Lords made an Order for the Delivery of the said Horses: That the said Captain Player refusing to deliver the said Horses, upon the said Order, that the Lords committed him Prisoner to the Custody of their Messenger; notwithstanding they were informed, that these Horses were seized by an Order of the said Committee, and the said Captain Player required to detain the said Horses in his Custody, till he should receive further Order from the said Committee.

Captain Player was called in; and did attest the Matter of Fact, according to the Report.-

Answer from Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewis brings Answer, that the Name of Mr. Rich. Norton be inserted in the Ordinance of the Eleventh of February concerning Hantshire: And, as to the Conference concerning Mr. Carey's Horses, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.-

Person committed by Lords.

Captain Player was again called in; and Mr. Speaker, by the Command of the House, enjoined him, that he should pay no Fees to the Officer in whose Custody he is; and that he should keep and detain the Horses, till this House take further Order: And did, by the Command of the House, give him Thanks for his Obedience and Respect to their Commands; and will protect him in them; and take some further Course for his further Satisfaction.

Conspirators at Bristoll.

Ordered, That it be referred to Colonel Fienis, to examine, to what Persons, well-affected to the Parliament, the late Conspirators at Bristoll are really indebted; that Satisfaction may be made unto them out of the Goods of the said Malignants and Delinquents.

Listing Soldiers.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, that they do take it as an acceptable Service in those Citizens, or others, that shall list themselves under the Command of Sheriff Langham, or such others as he shall appoint; for the Service of the City of London, and Counties adjacent; and for the Assistance of the Lord General, if there shall be Occasion; and the Sheriff is hereby desired to improve his Interest and Authority, for the speedy advancing of so necessary a Service.

Horses seized.

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Marten to give Satisfaction to the Lady, for her Two Coach-horses lately seized.

Capuchins.

ORDERED, That the Capuchins, that are in Sheriff Andrewe's House, be delivered over unto Captain Thomas, Captain of the Eighth Whelpe: Who is hereby required to receive them; and carry them to some convenient Port in France, and to land them there.

Members to attend.

Ordered, That Sir Ben. Rudyard, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Ashton, and Sir Rob. Pye, be enjoined to give their Attendance on this House; and not to depart without Leave.

Farthing Tokens, &c.

Whereas by Order of this House, dated the Twelfth of April, Mr. Playter was enjoined to make no more Farthing Tokens; and the Committee at Haberdashers Hall were appointed to take Course, that Mr. James East should cause, that the Farthing Tokens already made, and now in his Custody, to be seized; and that they seize all the Tools, Coppers, &c. concerning the making of Farthings: And whereas by a Warrant from the said Committee at Haberdashers Hall, dated the Twelfth of this Month, Mr. James East was required to view and survey the said Materials, and seize the same, according to the said Order: Which he hath done accordingly:

It is therefore this Day Ordered, That the said Mr. East do forthwith proceed in the making of Farthings; and for the Payment of the Wages to the Workmen, that the Monies seized in the said Office, be delivered over to the said Mr. East, upon Account; and that he proceed effectually in the Service, and give an Account to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall of the weekly Profits.

Order to be brought in.

Ordered, That Mr. Browne do bring in the Order To-morrow Morning, concerning the * * * *.

Army Affairs.

Ordered, That the Troop of Horse, under the Command of Captain Ansell, lately seized upon by Captain Harvey, be forthwith sent away to the Lord General; and that Colonel Manwaring do give Directions, that a good Troop of Horse do attend Colonel Moore, in the safe conveying of the said Troop, and certain Foot of the Lord Rochford's; who is hereby ordered to take care of the same; and to desire the Lord General to proceed against them according to their Demerit.

Deserters.

Ordered, That the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs do forthwith cause a diligent Search to be made in all suspected Places in London, Westminster, and Suburbs thereof, for all Soldiers under the Command of the Earl of Essex, that have run from their Colours; and to commit them to safe Custody, till this House take further Order.

Norwich Committee.

Adrean Parmenter, Christopher Barrett, Samuel Smyth, Thomas Beaker, and John Tooley, Esquire, the Sheriff for the Time being, John Thackther, Matthew Peckover, Samuel Puckle, Livewell Sherwood, and Matthew Lyndsey, Aldermen, read; and resolved to be added to the Committee for the weekly Assessments, and for the Sequestring of the Estates of Papists, and notorious Malignants, in the County of the City of Norwich.

Surrey Committee.

The Names of Sir Robert Wood, Mr. Robert Wood, and Mr. Edmund Jourdaine, were read; and ordered to be added to the Committees for the weekly Assessments, and for seizing the Estates of Papists, and Delinquents, in the County of Surrey.

Examining Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Examination of the Nine Prisoners in Newgate, be referred to the Committee for Examinations.

Passes granted.

Ordered, That Mr. Andrew Beathon, a Scotts Merchant, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass into France, with two Servants and their Baggage.

Ordered, That my Lord Dunfarling shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass the direct Way into Scotland, with his ordinary Retinue on Horseback.

Prisoners discharged.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Alcock be forthwith discharged from any further Restraint or Imprisonment, in the Serjeant's Custody.

Resolved, &c. That the Lady Biron be discharged from any further Restraint; and that she shall have a Warrant, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, to Oxon.

Galloway's Pass.

Resolved, &c. That Sir James Galloway, who is employed here by the State of Scotland, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant, to pass to Oxon.
