PRAYERS.

Strode's Petition.

ORDERED, That the Petition of Sir Rich. Strode be referred to the Committee for Elections, where Sir Rob. Harley has the Chair.

Payment for Provisions.

The humble Petition of Rich. Philips, James Stretton, and Angell Bell, in behalf of themselves, and the poor Inhabitants of Ockingham in the Hundred of Sunning, in the County of Berks; desiring the Repayment of Five hundred and Eighty-nine Pounds Eleven Shillings and Eleven Pence, for divers Quantities of Provisions, furnished by the said Inhabitants to his Excellency's Army; was this Day read.

Creichton's Petition.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of George Creichton Clerk, a distressed Minister, come out of Ireland, this Day presented to the House, be referred to the Committee for plundered Ministers; to consider of some Way for his Relief.

Waller's Army.

A Letter from Sir Wm. Waller, from Farneham Castle, of the Three-and-twentieth of November, relating the Condition of the Army under his Command, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That Five thousand Pounds, over and above the Five thousand Pounds, allotted to Sir Wm. Waller on Monday last, shall be forthwith and immediately sent to Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That the Hundred and Fifty Pounds, that is now come out of Norfolk, paid in by one Mr. Peed, be forthwith paid unto Mr. Trenchard, to be sent to Sir Wm. Waller.

Person sent for.

Ordered, That one Cutler, a High Constable of the County of Norfolk, be forthwith sent for in safe Custody, for detaining Monies in his Hands, as were Monies belonging to the State.

Waller's Army.

Resolved, &c. That this Five thousand Pounds, assigned to Sir Wm. Waller, shall be raised upon the Credit of Excise.

It is Ordered, in respect of the great Necessity of the Forces at Farneham, That the Committee at Haberdashers Hall do give present Order, that a Thousand Pounds of the Monies remaining there, be forthwith paid in to the Treasurers at Guildkal; and that the Treasurers at Guildkall do forthwith pay the said Thousand Pounds to the Treasurer at Wars; notwithstanding that it be not signed by those that are appointed to sign Warrants for the Payment of Monies; to the end that it may be immediately sent to Sir Wm. Waller: And this thousand Pound is to be deducted out of the Credit for Five thousand Pounds, out of the Excise.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ordered, That the Lords be desired, that the Thousand Pounds, assessed by them upon the Earl of Middlesex, may be forthwith levied, and sent to the Forces at Farnham.

Assessment.

Ordered, That the Lords be desired, that the Lord Newburgh may be assessed his Twentieth Part.

Excise on Tobaccoes.

Ordered, That the Commissioners of the Excise do demand the Money due upon the former Ordinance for Tobaccoes, according to the Directions of the said Ordinance.

Assessments.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Tho. Jermyn shall be assessed a Thousand Pounds for his Twentieth Part.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Ph. Parker shall be assessed for his Twentieth Part.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Wm. Playters shall be assessed his Twentieth Part.

Member disabled to sit.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Tho. Fanshaw shall be forthwith disabled from sitting, or being any longer a Member of this House, during this Parliament.

Crown Office.

Ordered, That an Ordinance be brought in, for sequestring the Crown Office in the King's Bench, to the Use and Benefit of Miles Corbett Esquire, a Member of this House; and for constituting the said Mr. Corbett, Clerk of the said Office, to receive the Profits and Advantages thereof, in as full and ample Manner, as any other Clerk formerly had, might, or ought to have.

Assessments.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Tho. Eversfield shall be assessed his Twentieth Part, according to the Ordinance.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Alexander Denton shall be assessed his Twentieth Part, according to the Ordinance.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Poynings Moore shall be assessed his Twentieth Part, according to the Ordinance.

Waller's Brigade.

Ordered, That Sir Arth. Heselrig and Mr. Trenchard do take care of providing, and sending away to Sir Wm. Waller, the Monies assigned to his Brigade, upon the Credit of the Excise.

Money for Plymouth.

Ordered, That the Collectors of the Monies raised for the Service of Plymouth do forthwith pay unto Captain Richard Crauley a Thousand Pounds, for the Service of that Town; and that they reimburse themselves out of the Monies raised for that Town, as they shall be collected.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Plymouth, to examine Mr. Treville Shipp, Sheriff of the County of *, in the Year 1639; and to call him to Account for such Monies as are in his Hands; and, that if any be found there, it may be employed for the Safety and Service of Plymouth.

Carr's Troop.

Ordered, That Mr. Trenchard do take speedy Order to send to Sir Wm. Waller Captain Carr's Troop.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Strode went up to the Lords with the Order for a Thousand Pounds, out of the Monies at Haberdashers Hall, to be sent immediately to Sir Wm. Waller: The Order concerning the Thousand Pounds assessed upon the Earl of Middlesex, to be sent to Sir Wm. Waller: The Order for moving the Lords to assess the Lord Newburgh: And was to put the Lords in mind of the Votes delivered the other Day at a Conference, concerning the Great Seal.

Earl of Stamford, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Lisle be added to the Committee appointed to examine the Business between the Earl of Stamford and Mr. Nicoll.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Strode brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Order for the Thousand Pounds to be sent to Sir Wm. Waller from Haberdashers Hall: And, as to the Order for the Thousand Pounds assessed upon the Earl of Middlesex, to be sent to Sir Wm. Waller; and the Desire for assessing the Lord Newburgh; and the Votes concerning the Great Seal; they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Affairs in Lancashire.

A Letter from the Committee at Manchester, of the Twentieth of November, relating the State of that County; and of divers English Soldiers that are landed, and upon landing, out of Ireland; and desiring some Supplies of Ammunition, and other Necessaries; was this Day read.

Ordered, That Mr. Asheton and Mr. Ashherst do confer with the Commissioners of Excise, about the better levying of the Excise in Lancashire.

Ordered, That Mr. Ashton and Mr. Ashherst do acquaint my Lord General, and the Committee of the Safety, with the Letter from Manchester; and to desire the Committee to take the said Letter into Consideration; and that all possible Care be taken to provide Arms and Ammunition for the Defence of the County of Lancaster.

Letter to Waller.

Ordered, That Mr. Nicoll do prepare a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, to be sent to Sir Wm. Waller.

Soldiers from Ireland.

Sir Jo. Clottworthy, Mr. Ashherst, Sir H. Mildmay, Mr. Ashton, Mr. Rolle, Sir Arth. Heselrig, Sir Jo. Curson, Sir Walt. Erle, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Tate, Mr. Goodwyn, Sir H. Vane jun. Mr. Blakiston, Mr. Gurdon;

This Committee or any Three of them, are appointed to consider, what Instructions are fit to be sent to the Deputy Lieutenants and Committees in any of the Counties where any of the English Soldiers are landed, or shall land, out of Ireland; or what other Course shall be taken for the Encouragement of those Soldiers to serve the Parliament: And Mr. Reynolds and Sir Jo. Clottworthy are appointed to take care of this Order.

Ships of Reprisal.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for encouraging Merchants to set forth Ships of Reprisal, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Navy: And all that will come, are to have Voices at this Committee, as to this Business.

Staffordshire Committee.

Ordered, That Ralph Adderlye Esquire, Samuel Terrick, Rob. Gregg, Jo. Smythe, Tho. Jollye, and Oliver Emerie, Gentlemen, be added to the Committees of Staffordshire: And to have the like Power, as other Committees have, might, or ought to have.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Lancaster Committee.

Ordered, That Mr. Jo. Ashherst be added to the Committee for Sequestrations in the County of Lancaster.

Muncton's &c Petition.

The humble Petition of Wm. Muncton and Brute Milles, in Behalf of themselves, and Sixteen of their Fellow Soldiers, was this Day read: And Mr. Recorder and Mr. Baynton are appointed to shew this Petition to my Lord Viscount Say and Seale; and to receive his Answer; and to report it to the House.

Publick Accounts.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for Accounts be peremptorily read, the first Business, on Monday Morning.

Records for Trials of Fieuis, &c.

Ordered, That a Copy of such Records in the Tower, or elsewhere, as are pertinent and useful for the Trial of Colonel Fienis, Sir Jo. Hotham, and Capt. Hotham, be delivered to Mr. Prynne, gratis.

Person committed.

Ordered, That Mr. Notley, who, by an Order of the Fifteenth of November, was appointed to pay unto Mr. Rose, a Member of this House, One hundred and Fifty Pounds, remaining in his Hands, of the Bill of Four hundred Thousand Pounds, be committed to the Serjeant's Custody, for not obeying the said Order; and there remain, until he obey the same.

Auditors of Excise.

Ordered, That the Debate of the Instructions to the Auditors of the Excise be taken into Consideration, on Monday Morning; and that it be likewise then considered, what Allowance is fit to be given to the Auditors for their Pains.

It is further Ordered, That the Committee that prepared these Instructions do meet this Afternoon, and send for the Commissioners of Excise, to attend the Committee, that they may give in their Objections, if they have any to make.

Trial of Sir J. Hotham, &c.

Ordered, That my Lord General be moved by Mr. Recorder to suspend the appointing of any peremptory Time or Place for the Trial of Sir John Hotham and Mr. Hotham, until he understand further from this House.
