PRAYERS.

Croft's Petition.

ORDERED, That the humble Petition of Captain Rob. Croft be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow of, and order, that Serjeant Major Pawlett, now a Prisoner in Sir Ralph Hopton's Forces, be exchanged for Sir Edw. Seymour, a Prisoner here; Captain Brooking, for Mr. Champernoone; Lieutenant Sheppard for Mr. Warrin; all Prisoners in the King's Bench; upon Certificate, that those Prisoners aforesaid, upon this Exchange, shall be released.

Upon the Letter from Captain Valentine Walton, now a Prisoner in Oxon, of the Third of July, this Day read;

Resolved, That my Lord General shall be desired to exchange Sir Tho. Lunsford, Colonel, Prisoner in Warwick Castle, for Captain Walton, Prisoner at Oxon.

Resolved, That Colonel Stevens, Mr. Jo. Georges, and Mr. Francklyn, be particularly and especially recommended unto my Lord General, for a speedy Exchange.

Fortifying Lynne.

An Ordinance for fortifying the Marshland, and Passes adjacent near unto Lynne, was this Day read; and recommitted unto Mr. Corbett, Sir John Potts, and Sir Anthony Irby.

Affairs in Norfolk.

Ordered, That Sir John Holland be dispensed with for going down into the County of Norfolk, in regard of Inability by reason of Sickness, notwithstanding any former Order enjoining his present going down: And that Lieutenant Colonel Wilton, who has received Commission from Sir John Holland to that Purpose, be hereby authorized and required to exercise, lead, and conduct, Sir John Holland's Regiment, in his Absence, with as full Power, to all Purposes, as Sir John Holland being present might himself do.

Reducing Newcastle.

An Ordinance for enjoining all Persons to adventure, for reducing Newcastle, so much as their yearly Expence comes unto, was this Day read: Upon Question, committed unto the Committee that brought it in; and are to bring it in on Monday Morning: And all that will come to have Voices: And are to meet at Three of Clock, in the Star Chamber.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Bainton is appointed to go to the Lords, to desire them to speed their Answer to the Ordinance concerning Excise; and to the Ordinance for Purchase of Sir Peter Richaut's Adventure in the East India Company.

Messenger to Lord Willoughby.

Ordered, That Peter Milles, Servant to the Lord Willoughby of Parham, that came with Letters to my Lord General, and carried Letters from his Excellency back to my Lord Willoughby, and is now stayed at Epping by the Watch there, be forthwith discharged, that he may with Diligence proceed with his Letters; and that he shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass, to take Post Horses: And that it be referred to the Committee in the Country to examine the Fact of thus staying the Messenger; and, if they see Cause, to send up the Parties that stayed him, or caused his Stay, to answer their Fact; or else to certify.

Weekly Assessments.

Ordered, That on Monday Morning, the Business concerning the enlarging the Time for the weekly Assessments, shall be taken into Consideration.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Bainton likewise carried up the additional Committees of the Isle of Wight: Two Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Lancaster: And an Ordinance for demolishing a Castle in Lancashire.

Answer.

Brings Answer, that, to all, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Horneby Castle.

Ordered, That Mr. Ashton do send down the Order formerly passed this House, concerning the defacing of Horneby Castle; notwithstanding this House has, as yet, received no Answer from the Lords.

Message from Lords.

Message from the Lords, by Sir Robert Rich and Mr. Page;

The Lords have received a Petition from the Earl of Portland, with which they thought fit to acquaint this House; and unless they shall hear from this House within these two or three Days, that they have Cause to examine the Earl of Portland further, they hold it fit to grant him his Desires.

They have likewise conceived an Order to enable the Assembly of Divines to send for Records and Ledger Books, by Warrant under the Prolocutor's Hand.

Examining Earl of Portland.

Ordered, That on Monday a Message shall be sent to the Lords, to desire that the Earl of Portland may be examined in the Presence of the Committee of this House (and Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind hereof); to desire he may be close Prisoner.-

Lady D'Aubignie.

Ordered, That the Committee do report the whole State of the Lady D'Aubignie's Case, on Tuesday Morning next.

Persons to be examined.

Ordered, That the Servants of the Lady D'Aubigny, and the Duke of Richmond, taken going to Oxon, by Scouts from Windsore, be examined before the Committee of Examinations; and that, in the mean time, they be committed Prisoners to the Lord Peter's House. -

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers, that this House has considered their Lordships Message: And as to the Business concerning the Earl of Portland, they will send Answer by Messenger of their own.

County Committees.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Heath and Mr. Page;

The Lords do agree to the several Ordinances for Addition of Committees in the several Counties; only they do not agree to the Name of Robert Ingram to be added in the County of Huntingdon; who, though he be a very honest man, he is not of that Quality to be ranked with the rest.

Isle of Wight.

Ordered, That Mr. Lisle be enjoined to go down to the Isle of Wight, for the settling of that Isle; and to stay for some Ten Days.

Person committed.

Ordered, That Mr. Gibbons, sent up by Colonel Morley, being taken as he came from Oxford, shall be forthwith committed to the Custody of the Serjeant.

Crispe's Estate.

Mr. Le Grose, a Dutchman, was called in; and informed the House that he could inform, where some of Sir Nicholas Crispe's Estate was.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Vassall, Mr. Hoyle, Mr. Holland, do forthwith speak with Mr. Le Grosse, concerning Sir Nicholas Crispe's Estate.

Sequestrations.

The Ordinance for Additions to the Ordinance for Sequestrations, was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Horses for Army.

Letter from his Excellency, 5 Julii, read; for Horses for recruiting his Army: Whereupon it was Ordered, That the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom do take care for the providing of Horses, according to my Lord General's Letter.

Works at Lyn.

Ordinance for Lyn, for making of Works, was read; and assented unto; and ordered, that the Lords be moved to join herein.

Ireland.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for Ireland be read, the first Business, on Monday Morning.

Seizing an Estate.

Ordered, That Mr. Moore shall have a Warrant from Mr. Speaker, for seizing the Estate of * *, now in Arms against the Parliament, and which is privately hid in London; and that he give Account thereof to the House: And that the same be disposed of for the Service of the Army in the County of Salop.

Dover Castle.

Ordered, That Four hundred Pounds be forthwith paid to Sir Edward Bois, out of the Fifth Part of the Estates of Delinquents in Kent, upon Account, Two hundred Pounds for the Payment of the Garrison in Dover Castle, and Two hundred Pounds for the mending the Breach in the Walls there.

Money for Army.

Ordered, That the Committee for Sir Wm. Waller's Monies, or any Three of them, do meet, when and where they please; and to give an Account to the House, from Day to Day, what Proceedings they make therein: And Mr. Hodges, Mr. Ashe, Mr. Nicholas, and Mr. Stephens, are added to that Committee.

Indemnity.

Ordinance for keeping indemnified those that apprehended Sir John Hotham &c. was read; and assented unto; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords by Sir Wm. Strickland.

Seizure of Horses.

Whereas the Committee at Coventry have made Seizure of certain Horses and Carriages, with divers Wares and Commodities, going down to Shrewsbury, or Places thereabouts; which said Carriages were let pass by Prince Rupert; and divers Horses, and Carriages, and Wares, belonging to the Town of Coventry, were seized, at the same time, by Prince Rupert his Forces; It is therefore Ordered, That the said Committee do detain and keep the said Horses, Carriages, and Goods, till their own be restored, or Satisfaction given for the same; or otherwise, to sell the same, to the best Advantage of the Losers of the Coventry Goods.

Prisoners discharged.

Ordered, That Mr. Robinson and Mr. Dighton shall be discharged from any further Restraint or Imprisonment; they having yielded Obedience to the Order of this House.

Assembly of Divines.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, assembled in Parliament, That the now Assembly of Divines shall have Power to send for the Copies of all such Records and Ledger Books, as they shall conceive necessary for their present Use and Occasions, in the said Assembly: And all Officers, and others, in whose Custody such Records and Ledger Books are, are hereby enjoined to deliver forth, for the Use of the said Assembly, all such Copies of such Records and Ledger Books, as the Prolocutor of the said Assembly shall, by Order of the said Assembly, send for, by Warrant under his Hand-writing.
