PRAYERS.

Lord Arundell's Sons.

RESOLVED, That Mr. Holbech of Felsted in Essex shall be desired to receive into his House, and to take the Care and Tuition of the Two Sons of the Lord Arundell of Wardour.

Resolved, &c. That the Lords Concurrence be desired herein.

Conspirators at Bristoll.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow and approve of what has been done by Colonel Fienis, and the Council of War, in the Execution of Rob. Yeomans and George Boucher, Conspirators, at Bristoll.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of and justify Colonel Fienis, and the Council of War at Bristoll, in the Act of committing Prince Rupert's Trumpeter; upon the Reasons and Grounds mentioned in the Order of the Council of War, for his Commitment.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Pierrepont shall have Leave to go into the Country, for Ten or Twelve Days.

Gourdon's Account.

Ordered, That the Auditor of the Duchy forthwith take the Accompt of Mrs. Gourdon Widow; and that, upon the passing of her Account, her Husband's Bonds for passing the Accounts be delivered.

Bristoll Garison.

Propositions for the Maintenance of the Garison of Bristoll were this Day read; and referred unto the Consideration of Mr. Reynolds, Sir Arth. Irby, Sir Rich. Onslowe, Mr. Prideaux, Sir H. Mildmay, Sir H. Vane, Sir H. Anderson. Mr. Pym. Mr. Cage, Sir Roger North, Mr. Nicolls, the Knights and Burgesses of Gloucester, Somerset, Wilts', and the Cities of Bristoll and Gloucester; and who are to meet on Monday next, at Two post Meridiem, in the Exchequer Chamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records.

Church Government.

The Amendment, to be added to the Ordinance for Divines, viz. "who together with some Members of both Houses of Parliament," after the Word "judicious Divines," and before the Words * *

This Amendment was assented unto; and ordered to be carried up by Mr. Rous.

Message to Lords.

He is likewise to desire the Lords to send; their Resolutions concerning more Commissioners to be sent from both Houses into Scotland. He is to put the Lords in mind of the Answer of both Houses to the Paper delivered in from the Earl of Lindsay, of the Twentieth of May. He is likewise to desire the Lords to appoint a Day for the publick Thanksgiving through the whole Kingdom, for the Discovery and Deliverance from the late horrid Design; and likewise, a Day, and some Course, for the Vote for Mr. Holbeach to take the Care and Tuition of the Two Sons of the Lord Arundell of Wardour.

Scotch Army in Ireland.

Sir H. Vane reports from the Committee appointed to consider of the Arrears due to the Scottish Army in Ireland, that there was a Failure, on the Scotts Part, in not accepting of the Muster Master Roberts, sent thither from this State; and that their Men were not mustered till the September after they came over, by any Muster Master of this State: And that there was a Failure, on this Side, in not complying with the Payment of them, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Serjeant Wilde, Sir Gilb. Gerard, Mr. Holland, Mr. Trenchard, Sir Peter Wentworth, Mr. Pym, Mr. Bond, Mr. Lisle, do consider of some Propositions, for the speedy raising of Thirty thousand Pounds for the Scotts, out of the said Sequestration Monles; and especially, how that, Ten thousand Pounds may be presently raised out of the Sequestration Monies, or the Counties, to be presently paid unto the Scots, as Part of the Thirty thousand Pounds. They are likewise to take care of the Lord Fairefax.

Sir H. Mildmay, and Sir H. Anderson, are added to this Committee: And they are to meet this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in the Court of Wards: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records, &c.

Noell's Sequestration.

Ordered, That the Committee for Sequestrations do proceed in sequestring the Estate of Henry Noell Esquire, who, as it appears upon Proof, was with actual Forces against the Parliament, and slew some of the Men raised by Order of Parliament.

Lady Campden's Executor.

Upon the Report of an Order, of the Ninth of June, made by the Committee of Lords and Commons for Advance of Monies;

It is this Day Resolved, upon the Question, That this House doth accept of the Five thousand Pounds from Mr. May, the Executor of the Lady. Campden, in manner as it is offered from the Committee of Lords and Commons for Advance of Monies, by an Order of the Ninth of June; and that be shall have an Ordinance for his Indemnity, according to the Purport of the said Order.

Earl of Portland, &c.

Resolved, That a Message shall be sent to the Lords, to desire that the Earl of Portland, and the Lord Viscount Conway, may this Afternoon be re-examined at Weacers Hall, by a Committee of Lords, in the Presence of a Committee of this House.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Rous brings Answer, that the Lords do agree to the Addition for the Ordinance for an Assembly; and for the Commissioners to go into Scotland, they have added an Earl to those formerly appointed; and for the Day of Thanksgiving throughout the Kingdom to be on Tuesday Three Weeks; and for the Covenant to be taken by the City and Parts adjacent To-morrow Sevennight; and, for my Lord Arundell of Wardour's Children, they have committed the Care of them to the Lord*; who will recommend them to Mr. Holbeach, according to the Desire of this House.

Commissioners to Scotland.

Resolved, upon the Question, That Sir Hen. Vane jun. and Mr. Hatcher shall be added to the Commissioners formerly named by this House, to go into Scotland.

Publick Thanksgiving.

This House doth agree to the Day of Thanksgiving, and taking the Covenant.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Lords, and appoint Tuesday come Three Weeks to be the Day for the Publick Thanksgiving to be given through the Kingdom, for the Discovery and great Deliverance from the late horrid Plot; and likewise for the Vow and Covenant to be taken.

The Convenant.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Lords, and doth appoint To-morrow Sevennight to be the Day for the Covenant to be taken in the Cities of London, Westminster, Suburbs, and Places adjacent.

Taking Horses.

Ordered, That the Committee, to which the Ordinance, sent from the Lords, concerning the taking of Horses, was referred, do bring in that Ordinance on Monday Morning next.

Sir Rob. Pye brings Answer, that the Lords will send Answer, by Messengers of their own, to the Message carried up by him.

Earl of Portland, &c.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Dr. Heath;

The Lords have commanded us to let you know, that whereas they had received a Message from this House, desiring, that the Earl of Portland, and the Lord Viscount Conway, might be examined this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in Weavers Hall; they rather desire, that they may be examined in some Rooms near the Peers House, where they were last examined: And, to that Purpose, they have sent Order for them to be here accordingly.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Strode went up to the Lords, to desire that they would pass the Ordinance concerning the listing of Horses; and that they would grant a Conference, so soon as may stand with their Lordships Conveniency, concerning the Examinations of the Earl of Portland, and the Lord Viscount Conway.

Answer.

Answer returned by the same Messengers, that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Excise.

Ordered, That the Business of Excise be taken into Consideration on Monday Morning at Nine of Clock; and that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

Farthing Tokens.

The humble Petition of many of the Inhabitants of London, Westminster, and Suburbs, &c. concerning the Grievance of Farthing Tokens, was this Day read; and ordered to be referred to the Committee of this House at Haberdashers Hall; with the Addition of the Knights and Burgesses of Middlesex, Surry, London, and Westminster, as to this Business.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Strode brings Answer, that, as to the Ordinance for listing of Horses, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own; and do agree to give a present Conference by Committees of both Houses, as is desired.

Conference.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Solicitor, Sir H. Vane jun. Sir Gilb. Gerard, are appointed Managers of this Conference; and to set forth unto the Lords the Inconveniences that might happen, if these Lords should. . brought to be examined here.

Lord Allington's Delinquency.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the Delinquency of the Lord Allington, and of the Informations against him, be referred to the Committee for Examinations.

Conference.

Mr. Pym reports, that, upon the Reasons delivered by the Managers of the Conference, they do agree to the Time and Place desired by this House for the Examination.

Lord Ranulagh's Petition.

The humble Petition of Roger, Lord Viscount Ranulagh, President of the Province of Connaught, in the Kingdom of Ireland, was this Day read: And the House, being very sensible of the great Merit, and faithful Service done by the said Lord Ranulagh, do, in respect thereof, order, that the said Petition be, in a special manner, recommended and referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland.

Canterbury City.

A Letter to be sent from the House, and signed by Mr. Speaker, to the City of Canterbury, in Acknowledgment of their good Affections to the Parliament, expressed in their Voluntary raising Two Companies, and otherwise, was this Day read; and assented unto.

Moore's Petition.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of Alexander Moore, praying some Relief for his great Losses, be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs.

Listing Soldiers.

Ordered, That Captain Willoughby shall continue his Command over such Soldiers, as have listed themselves under his Command, living within the Hamlets of the Tower; and that the said Soldiers be required, from time to time, to obey his Commands, and not to list themselves under any other.

Stephens' Claims.

Upon the humble Petition of Henry Stephens Merchant, praying Satisfaction for Three thousand One hundred Hides, seized by the Lords Justices in Ireland, of the Petitioner's, disposed of, through great Necessity, for Provisions for the Army in Ireland; it is this Day Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs; to consider of and provide some way for the Satisfaction of the Petitioner.

Taylor's Claims.

Upon the humble Petition of Amy Taylor Widow, praying Satisfaction for several Sums of Money laid out in Goods and Provisions expended by her, for the Service of the Army in Munster:

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs, to consider of some way of Relief and Satisfaction to the Petitioner.

Clerk of the Ordnance.

Ordered, That the Lieutenant of the Tower, and the Captain of the Guard, do forthwith put Mr. John White, Clerk of the Ordnance, into the Possession of the House in the Tower, out of which Mr. Sherborne was removed, and wherein the Earl of Baith now is; and that the Committee for the Tower do take care, that this Order be put in Execution: And Mr. Salloway is added to that Committee.

Gunners in the Tower.

Ordered, That Mr. Wheeler do take care to make Payment to the Gunners belonging to the White Tower, . . the Sum of Twenty-four Pounds, according to the Report from the Committee for the Tower.

Lord Forbes', &c. Arrears.

The humble Petition of Alexander Lord Forbes was read; desiring this House to take care, that the Monies due unto him, and his Officers, for their Services in the Sea Employment for Ireland, and for his Engagements for Monies and other Provisions, for those Forces under his Command, may be paid; in regard a Report hath been made, under Mr. Collins' Hand the Auditor, of a great Part of the Accompts and Disbursements of that Voyage and Employment; whereby much Arrears appear to be due to the Petitioner and his Officers:

It is therefore this Day Ordered, That such Adventurers as have subscribed for the Sea Adventure for Ireland, and have not brought in their Money, shall be required, within Ten Days, to bring in their Arrears; or otherwise this House will proceed against them according to their Neglect.

And it is further Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Trenchard, and those of that Committee, to see my Lord Forbes satisfied out of the first Monies that shall come in upon the said Payments.

Ordered, That a Pass be granted to my Lord Forbes, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, to go into Scotland, with his Servants and Necessaries.

Invalid Soldiers.

The Order for Provision to be made in the Counties for sick maimed Soldiers, was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Listing Soldiers.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Tower do consider of the listing of Soldiers within the Hamlet of the Tower, by the Advice of the Deputy Lieutenants.

Prisoner to be examined.

Ordered, That Alderman Bacchus have Leave to go, with his Keeper, to Guildhall, to be examined, as a Witness, in a Trial there.

Escape of Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Proceedings against the Marshal of the King's Bench, for the Escape of Isaac Sutton, John Birbeck, and Captain John Hurst, and of any Prisoners, Soldiers in the Army under the Command of the Earl of Essex, shall be suspended, till this House take further Order: And all Persons, whom it may concern, are hereby. required to take notice of this Order: And the further Examination of this Business is referred to the Committee for Obstructions in the Courts of Justice.

Persons to attend.

Ordered, That Mr. Mathews and Mr. Heblethwaite be summoned to attend the House.

Absent Members.

Ordered, That such Members as have departed the Service of the House, and gone into the Country, without Leave, shall not be admitted into the House, till the Committee do examine them, and report the same to the House.

Leave of Absence.

Mr. Whitlock hath Leave granted him to go into the Country.

Atkins' Writings.

Ordered, That Daniel and Rich. Banks, dwelling near Temple Bar, do deliver a Box of Writings out of their House to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland; the which Box belongs to one John Alkins; and are to be made use of in the Matter referred by this House to the said Committee: And, in case they be not delivered, that the Committee shall give Order to have them taken out.

Bills for Provisions.

Upon the humble Petition of Captain Thomas Rainborow, complaining, that being Vice Admiral to the Lord Forbes, in the late Irish Expedition, and Commissary General of the Land Forces; and, by virtue of the Committee of the additional Forces by Sea and Land their Warrant, he did pay, and undertake to pay, divers great Sums, far exceeding the Sums received by him from them and therefore divers Bills for Provisions, and others, are returned, and protested against him; and praying the said Bills may be ordered to be paid by the Committee for the Irish Expeditions, and the Lord Forbes' Accounts:

It is Ordered, That the Suits commenced against the said Captain Rainborow, by Tho. Clare, John Hales, Leonard Dewden, upon Bills of Exchange, or any other Suits, as either are or may be commenced against him, or his Sureties, for any Bills charged by him, and not paid by the Committee, shall be stayed, till the said Captain Rainborow shall return from the publick Service of the Kingdom; he being Captain of the Ship called the Lyon, under the Right honourable the Earl of Warwick his Commands: And all Parties, whom it doth or may concern, are hereby required to take notice of this Order; that no Proceedings be against the said Captain Rainsborow, for any of the Causes aforesaid.

Invalid Soldiers.

Ordered, That the High Constables of the several Hundreds in the Counties of Berk, Buck', Middlesex, and Suvrey, in whose Divisions any sick and maimed Soldiers of the Parliament's Army are or shall be quartered or billeted, do take special Care, that the said Soldiers be furnished and supplied with Lodgings and Bedding, fitting Men in their Condition: And the said High Constables are hereby required and authorized to send their Warrants and Precepts to the Petty Constables of all Towns, near adjoining to those Towns and Houses where the said Soldiers are quartered, for the bringing in of Bedding, if Need require, for the Use of the said Soldiers, till it shall please God to restore them to Health. And it is further Ordered, That the Committee for Sequestration, of the several Counties above-mentioned, out of such Bedding, as, by virtue of the Ordinance of Parliament for Sequestration, shall be seized for the Use of the Commonwealth, shall deliver so much thereof, as shall be needful, to the Treasurers appointed by this House for maimed Soldiers, or to such as they shall appoint, for the Use of the said sick and wounded Men; and that the High Constable shall take care to restore such Bedding, as shall be by them supplied, to the Owners thereof; as also, that the above-mentioned Treasurers for maimed Soldiers do take care, that the Bedding, by them received from the Committee for Sequestration, be not imbezzled, but carefully kept and accounted for, to the Use and Service of the Commonwealth.
