Supplying London, &c. with Water.

1^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for the Bringing of certain Springs of Water from Hoddesdon, in Com' Hertford, to the Cities of London and Westminster, and other Places adjoining.

Exchequer Proceedings.

Ordered, That Dr. Bastwick's Name be inserted, in the Order concerning the Stay of the Proceedings in the Exchequer, for the Levying of the Fines of Burton and Prinne, until this House shall take further Order in it: And that Dr. Bastwicke shall be included within the Benefit and Advantage of that Order, as far forth, and as fully, as either Mr. Burton or Mr. Prinne.

Bishops Secular Affairs.

Ordered, That the Bill, that Bishops, and others in Holy Orders, shall not intermeddle with Secular Affairs, be recommitted to the same Committee: And are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Court of Wards.

Treaty with Scotland.

Mr. Pimme, reports the first Part of the Conference with the Lords, concerning the Treaties between the Two Kingdoms, delivered by the Earl of Bristoll.-

Estate of Berwicke.

A Message from the Lords, by J. Foster and J. Heath;

The Lords desire a free Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, in the Painted Chamber, presently, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, about certain Letters, lately received, concerning the Estate of Berwicke. -

Treaty with Scotland.

Ordered, That this Report, concerning the Treaty of both Kingdoms, be resumed, so soon as this Conference shall be ended. -

Conference.

Answer returned, by the same Messengers; That this House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and will give a present Meeting, by a Committee of the whole House, as is desired.

Mr. Treasurer, Sir Tho. Widrington, Mr. Fines, Mr. Hollis, Lord Falkland, Sir John Hotham, Sir Ralph Hopton, Sir Walter Erle, Mr. Martin, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Trial of E. of Straford.

A Message from the Lords, by J. Reeve and J. Foster;

The Lords have agreed to hear this House, in Westminster-hall, at Eight of the Clock on Saturday next, touching the Matter of Law in the Business of the Earl of Straford, if this House shall so please.

Answer returned by the same Messengers;

This House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and will send an Answer, by Messengers of their own.

Mr. Capell is appointed to go up with this Message;

House to sit.

To acquaint their Lordships, that this House, in respect of the great Business of the Kingdom, are resolved to sit this Afternoon; and do desire, that their Lordships would be pleased to do the like, if it may stand with their Lordships Conveniency.

Members to attend.

All the Lawyers of the House are required, by the House, to give their Attendance here, at Two post meridiem, upon the special great Business of the House: And the Serjeant is to give them particular Notice of it.

Conference.

Mr. Fines reported That Part of the Conference, concerning the Treaties of both Kingdoms, which was delivered by the Earl of Essex.

Mr. Hollis reported that other Part of this Conference, which was delivered by the Earl of Holland.

Ordered, That the last Part of Mr. Pimme's Report, and the Report of Mr. Fines and Mr. Hollis, be made To-morrow Morning.

Ordered, That the House sit this Afternoon at Two post meridiem.

Privilege- Ly. Sandys' Assessment.

RESOLVED, upon the Question, That the Lady Sandys, that was the Lady Dowager of the Lord Sandys, not being born a Noblewoman, is not to be taxed nor assessed, by virtue of the Bill of Subsidies, as a Baroness.

The like resolution is taken for all in the like Condition.

That there shall be a Message, in convenient time, to the Lords, to desire a Conference with their Lordships concerning this Business.

Berwicke Garison.

Sir Tho. Widrington reports the Conference this Day had with the Lords concerning Berwicke.

Two Letters read; 1. from the Mayor and Aldermen of Berwick; 2. from Sir Mich. Ernley.

Mr. Hollis reports the Conference with the Lords, had on Thursday or Friday last, concerning Berwicke.

A Copy of a Letter, sent by the Garison of Berwicke to the Lord General, was this Day read.

Attainder of Earl of Straford.

Mr. Solicitor is enjoined, by this House, to maintain the legal Part of the Bill of Attainder of Tho. Earl of Straford, on Saturday Morning next: And Mr. Maynard and Mr. Glyn are adjoined unto him, as Assistants.

Trial of E. of Strafford.

Sir Jo. Evelyn went up to the Lords with this Message; To desire a free Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, concerning their Lordships Message sent this Day, touching the Matter of Law in the Case of the Trial of the Earl of Strafford.

Mr. Pimme, Mr. Pierpoint, Sir Jo. Culpeper, Mr. Fines, Mr. Hampden, Mr. Reignolds, Mr. Prideaux, are to prepare Heads for this Conference with the Lords; and to manage the Conference.

Mr. Reynolds has Leave to be absent for Five or Six Days.

Sir John Evelyn brings Answer, that their Lordships will give a present Meeting, by a Committee of the whole House, as is desired.

Earl of Strafford.

The Heads of the Conference (reported by Mr. Pierpoint) to be desired with the Lords, touching the Matter in Law, in the Case of the Earl of Strafford.

That this House received a Message from their Lordships this Day, to this Effect, "That their Lordships are ready to hear this House in Westminster-hall, on Saturday Morning next, touching the Point of Law, in the Case of the Earl of Strafford:" They conceive, This did arise from the Message of this House, upon the Delivery of the Bill of Attainder of the Earl of Strafford.

That this House is ready, at a Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, to justify the Justice and Legality of the Bill of Attainder of the Earl of Strafford, at the Time and Place that their Lordships have appointed.

Mr. Pimme, Mr. Stroud, Sir Tho. Witherington, Mr. Hollis, Sir Jo. Hotham, are to prepare Heads for this Conference; and to manage it.

Mr. Pierpoint reports the Conference had with the Lords, touching the Matter in Law, in the Case of the Earl of Strafford.

My Lord Privy Seal said, "that the Intention of their House was, to have proceeded in the former way; to have heard Counsel upon the legal Part: But, since it is your Desire to have a Committee of both Houses to meet at the Time and Place before appointed, the Day being now far spent, and finding something of Moment to be considered of, their Lordships will send an Answer, by Messengers of their own, in time convenient: And therefore shall not meet upon Saturday in Westminster-hall; but will sit in their own House upon Saturday next."

Subsidies.

Ordered, That To-morrow, at Eight of the Clock, the Report of the Bill of Subsidies be made; and that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind of this Order.

Universities.

Ordered, That the Committees for the Universities do meet on Friday come Fortnight; and that, in the mean time, Sir Ro. Harley, who has the Chair at that Committee, may send out Warrants for Parties and Witnesses to be here against that Day.

Bp. of Elye.

Ordered, That the Bishop of Elye's Committee do meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Court of Wards.

Star-chamber.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Bill of Starchamber do meet To-morrow post meridiem, in the Court of Wards.

Berwicke Garison.

Ordered, That Sir Tho. Widdrington do make his Report, To-morrow Morning, of the Conference with the Lords about Berwicke.
