imported into said island might be applied to the
erection of a pier in said island. |

I find by a copy of said letters patent that Charles
II granted to the Bailiff and Jurats of the island
power to levy as follows upon all wines, cyder and
apples imported, viz. 24 livres Tournois per tun of
French or Rhemish wines; 15 livres Tournois per
butt or pipe of Canary or Spanish wines; 12
sols Tournois for every pottle of brandies; four livres
Tournois for every tun of cyder and eight sols
Tournois for every quarter of apples: and that
the moneys therefrom should be applied as follows,
viz. 2,000 livres Tournois per an. to the use of such
school, college or academy as was intended to be
built there by Sir George Carteret since deceased;
300 livres Tournois per an. for a stock to set at
work the poor; the residue for the erection of a
pier there and when same should be perfected then
one moiety of said revenue to go to said school and
the other moiety to such public uses as the Governor,
Bailiff and Jurats should direct. |

I am certified by Sir Philip Carteret that the
revenue raised as above was wholly employed to
the building of said pier till the great quantities
of cyder made in the island made it necessary to
prohibit the importation of any foreign liquors
but that in 1685 the pier running to ruin and the
inhabitants considering the prejudice that would
befall the whole island by the decay thereof, thought
it a less inconvenience to take off the said prohibition
and by consequence revive said impost and thereupon
the impost was farmed for that year 1685 for 800
crowns French money, which sum remains still in
the farmer's hands. It is now farmed for the like
sum for the present year 1686, payable at Michaelmas next. I have no objection to petitioner's
request seeing that the revenue is not sufficient
for the several purposes at first intended. |

Archdeacon of Lincoln for the redemption of captives,
alleged to be 254l. 8s. 0d. I wrote the Archdeacon
April 20 last to pay it in. He desired till June 24,
which I granted. He acknowledges the sum and
says that 100l. thereof was paid to you "to which
you make some objection and desire some short time
to examine the business and if you find the same
to be as the Archdeacon alleges you will readily
pay the same." I allow you till Sept. 29 next for
this. The King must have an account of it and
you cannot be safe from trouble till it be paid. |

Dutton has accounted to the King for the revenue
of Barbados during his government and has received

last. He represents that there is due to him
by a note from Col. John Codrington, late Treasurer
of Barbados, 1,000l. part of 2,000l. accompted for
by him. The King's directions may be necessary
for removing all scruple concerning the payment
thereof. I am therefore commanded by the King
to notify you that Dutton [is to] have leave to sue

and record the following extract of baronets made
by Charles II who have not paid or been discharged
of their baronet fees of 1,095l. each, and to transmit
same to the Clerk of the Pipe to the end he may
issue process thereon, the Lord Treasurer having
by his warrant of Jan. 26 last, supra, p. 540, directed
the prosecution of such baronets and thereon process
did accordingly issue, but it appearing that others
were omitted by not appearing in the list or extract
contained in the said warrant, "some of which
have since upon search in the offices of Record
been found out and are contained in the annexed
extract." Also process is hereby to be renewed
in all of the above cases where there has been no
return made of the writs. In case of warrants for
stay of process in any of the above instances the
said stay is to be only till next Michaelmas term.

persons whatsoever should presume to export any
tin in what form soever out of the counties of
Cornwall or Devon without having the Coinage
stamp thereon and that for the encouragement of
such merchants as should re-melt their tin into
small bars at the public furnaces built by the direction of said order the said Receiver General should
allow 3s. for every hundred [weight] of dross coming
of such re-melted tin: it being alleged that the tinners
have been hitherto conformable to the said order
as well since the death of the late King as before.

the said Receiver of the sum of 14l. 18s. 5d. expended by him in repairing the Coinage Hall and
building a meeting house at Helston in Cornwall. |
