fees on viz. 24l. 13s. 6d. whereas according to [the
fees charged on payments for] the establishment

supra, p. 282) express our discharge. We will
forthwith lodge 20,000l. in Mr. Squibb's hands
(the greatest part of which is already in his possession) and within a month 10,000l. more. For
this 30,000l. we desire to have tallies of loan on any
branch of the revenue and that said tallies be
deposited in the hands of the Chancellor of the
Exchequer in trust to be applied to the satisfaction
of said bond when we shall so desire it. By this
means the King is fully secured and we shall have

This is the present state of the Hanaper [revenue]:

out all the Parliament writs and all the Lords' writs
of summons, sending for records out of the Tower,
enrolling and managing the proceedings of the Court
of Claims to the Register and a big bill with the
King's printer. This demand of the Earl of
Nottingham's if ever paid was from the Office of the
Butlerage and never paid out of the Hanaper till
the present Lord Keeper hath it in his warrant of
allowances by way of supplement. I can depose
that Chancellor Hyde never received one penny of
it, either of the Butlerage or Hanaper nor his fee
from the Wardrobe. |

Warrant by Treasurer Rochester to William Hewer,
Treasurer for the late town and garrison of Tangier.
The King has directed 13,000l. to be supplied to you
to be proportionably distributed to the inhabitants
of said late city or to such as are concerned in the
respective debts due to them either from the King
or from the military officers as by a statement
thereof presented by you to the late Treasury Lords
being part of the general debt due from the King.
You are hereby, in accordance with the privy seal of
Mar. 31 last, to adjust the proportion of each person
in said 13,000l. according to said paper agreed on by
his Majesty and on the receipt of said sum you are
to proceed in the paying of same. In the case of
those whose debts do not exceed 20l. they are to be
paid off wholly [in full], taking care that the total
of 13,000l. be not exceeded. And as there are
several petitions to me relating to debts due to one
inhabitant from another his Majesty expects that
they take care proportionably to satisfy their debts
one to another. See this done in the best manner
you can to the satisfaction of all to prevent
clamours. Further there are several debts due to
the King from said inhabitants, as adjusted at Tangier
and not yet stopped from them for Excise, porterage,
rent and otherwise. You are to deduct a proportion
of the said debts out of the money now payable. |

ordered 200l. a week to you towards discharging and
paying off several of the late inhabitants of Tangier
for their proprieties in houses there, over and above
what you were directed to pay by the warrant of 1684,
July 23 (supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. VII,
p. 1245). You have proceeded to the payment of
600l. to Mr. Sidney Wortley and others out of three
weeks' money supplied you for that purpose and
as in part of what is due to them on their said
proprieties. You are hereby, out of such funds as
I shall put into your hands to proceed to payment
of the following list of the moneys due to them for
their proprieties in houses lately demolished at
Tangier according to the value put upon them by
the Commissioners appointed by Lord Dartmouth
at Tangier for that purpose "whose papers for
making out their respective titles not appearing
to the said Commissioners at Tangier was the cause
that this mark * was put against their names in
the account delivered in by the said Lord Dartmouth
and now lying before me to distinguish them from
those proprietiers whose titles appeared plain to
the said Commissioners." Upon paying them you
are to use the same caution directed in the former
warrant for taking in all the leases and other
evidences making out their respective titles and
also a receipt and full discharge from them to the King. |

and that they may send with them Books of Rates
etc. with duplicates for the respective Collectors in
the Plantations. As Lord Baltimore is now in
England these instructions may be given to him
personally: but for the future all instructions of
this nature to any of the Plantations are to be sent
to the Customs Commissioners, through me, for them
to despatch same. |
