May 5. Money order for 150l. to the Duke of Beaufort, ut supra, p. 703. Order Book I, p. 111.
May 8. Reference by Treasurer Rochester to Sir Richard Haddock et al., late Commissioners of the Navy, of the petition of Sir Edward Dearing shewing that by patent from the late King he furnished the Navy with all sorts of naval stores, such as hemp, etc.; that amongst other dealings he had an imprest bill upon a contract for 2,666l. 13s. 4d., which contract was afterwards vacated, but the said imprest bill being in the possession of Mr. Fenn was, contrary to his [Fenn's] bond for its repayment, most unjustly put in super and charged on petitioner in the then Navy Treasurer's account, on which petitioner was forced to sue said Fenn's bond and compelled him and his surety to satisfy said imprest bill to such persons as the late King had granted same to: that the rumour and supposition of such a debt owing by petitioner to the King has been of great damage to him: therefore prays a privy seal for his discharge. Reference Book III, p. 354.
