Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to pay a moiety of the sums due to the respective persons as follows; applying to meet same the 1,200l. remaining in the Exchequer of the 2,000l. Excise money paid in last week (the other 800l. having been issued to the Navy) and a further 62l. 10s. 0d. of applicable money in the Exchequer not being Customs or Excise money: the payments are to be one moiety of the respective sums due (except the 1,000l. to the Secretaries). Jan. 8. Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal to authorise and appoint William Chiffinch to receive the fine of 500l. lately imposed in the King's Bench upon Thomas Cudmore of Essex: one moiety thereof to be by Chiffinch detained to his own use without account, the other moiety to be by him paid as the King shall direct by sign manual. If the said fine shall have been paid into the Exchequer it is hereby to be paid out to Chiffinch. King's Warrant Book, p. 181.

Treasury warrant to Edward Seymour, Treasurer of the Navy, to pay 3,538l. 14s. 0d. to Charles Duncombe for interest on several sums by him lent for the service of the Navy amounting to 42,000l., the interest thereof at 6 per cent. amounting to 2,123l. 4s. 5d. and 4 per cent. reward thereon amounting to 1,415l. 9s. 7d. as by Auditor Aldworth's statement of account thereof allowed by the Treasury Lords the 7th inst. Jan. 10. Same to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease to John Rosewell of the capital messuage of the manor of Englishcombe, co. Somerset, part of the Duchy of Cornwall, for 99 years or 3 lives, at the ancient rent of 12l. and fine of 600l. Warrants not Relating to Money, pp. 129–30.
Prefixing: particular of said premises made out by John Griffith, deputy auditor of the said Duchy, and ratal thereof by William Harbord, Survevor General of Crown Lands made in pursuance of a Treasury warrant of Dec. 14 last. Premises were by indenture dated 1664, April 26, demised to Henry Seymour for 99 years terminable on the life of Sam. Rosewell and in reversion of a former grant to Peter Rosewell.
Treasury warrant to Sir Peter Tirrell, bart., William Harbord, Francis Arundell, Thomas Agar, Charles Tirrell, William Randall, Samuel Rolt and Richard Plowman. The lieutenants and regarders of Whittlewood and Salcey Forests certify that the following coppices there are fit to be felled this season. viz., Little Streights Coppice in Robert Howling's Walk in Salcey Forest, Sayes Coppice in Wakefield Walk, Birch Coppice in Sholbrooke Walk and Armitage Coppice in Shrobb Walk in Whittlewood Forest. You are hereby to fell a convenient number of trees there for the gating, stileing, cabbening and staking said coppices as desired by the Queen's Council. In order to avoid the great wastes and spoils of timber in said forests, of which great complaints have been made to us, you are to see to the felling thereof and are to sell the offal, accounting therefor to the auditor of co. Same to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease to Owen Hughes of the arable land and waste late belonging to Jor ap Henrick alias Duy and late in the tenure of John ap Griff Lewis, being parcel of one welly called Welly Ithell ap Dd, situate in the village of Clygyrog in the commote of Tal y Bolion, co. Anglesea. parcel of the Principality of North Wales; as demised 1597–8, March 2, inter al. to Nicholas Morgan and Tho. Horne for 60 years from 1621, Michaelmas: also of the passage of Southcrooke upon the river of Menai between Penmaen and Llanthwyn in said County and Principality formerly in the tenure of Thomas Lambert and now or lately in the tenure of Hugh Williams. The present lease is to be for 29 years from 1681, Michaelmas, for the first parcel and for 31 years from 1679, Michaelmas, for the second parcel and the rents to be respectively 14s. 5½d. and 4l. 10s. 0d. per an. Prefixing particulars dated 1679, Dec. 2, by deputy auditor Thomas Tuder of both parcels, and ratal dated 1679, Dec. 6, thereof by the Surveyor General of Crown Lands made in pursuance of a Treasury warrant of Nov. 29 last. The first parcel is held by said Hughs by mesne assignment from Morgan and Horne. The second parcel has been granted by the Crown but "I find no enrolment thereof before me [Tuder], and conceive the grant thereof is expired upon the death of Lewis Williams son to the abovementioned Hugh Williams. and finding the same [concealed] and the rent almost lost I did by virtue of my office let the same for three years to Mr. Hughes at the rent of 4l. 10s. 0d. per an., which I conceive is near the full value." The consideration for this lease is the good service of said Hughs in continuing and preserving the said rents which otherwise might have been lost: therefore the lease to pass without fine.
Henry Guy to the Customs Commissioners forwarding for their report thereon David Lloyd's letter to his wife intimating that Mr. Blackburne is not fit to be Surveyor of Plymouth as his father is a merchant and likely to smuggle goods. Out Letters (General), p. 334.
Same to the Lord Chief Baron (and similarly to Barons Atkins, Raymond and Gregory). On the 7th inst. there was a hearing before the King in Council on the difference between the executors of William Ashburnham, late Cofferer of the Household, and Henry Brunckes [Brouncker], present Cofferer, concerning some tallies in the hands of said executors upon which the money is not yet received, although acquittances were given in the Exchequer for the same. The King referred the matter to the Treasury Lords, together with you, to compose it or report. Attend the Treasury Tuesday morning next for this purpose. Ibid, pp. 334–5.
Jan. 10. Henry Guy to the Navy Commissioners to make out bills of imprest from time to time for payments to Richard Brett and partners, Victuallers of the Navy. You are to assign their bills for last year ending the 1st inst. (viz., for the ordinary, extraordinary and sea victualling) for payment on the 500l. per week received by the Navy Treasurer out of the Customs. For the present current year you are to assign their bills on the 1,000l. per week similarly received. Out Letters (General), p. 335.

You are to furnish the Lords of the Committee of Trade and Plantations with copies of all such accounts concerning the trade of Jamaica and the export and import of commodities in that island as you have lately received from the Earl of Carlisle or any other: and the like for the future. Same to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Henry Guy of St. Martins in the Fields, Middlesex, his heirs and assigns for ever of the manor or lordship, or reputed manor or lordship, of Tring, co. Herts, with the rights, members and appurtenances thereof, and all manner of quitrents payable by the free or copyhold tenants, rents seck, rents of assize and other rents of whatsoever nature, and all houses, tenements, cottages, lands, demesnes, meadows, pastures, feedings, commons, common of pasture, wastes, heaths, moors, woods, underwoods, mines, quarries and liberty of free chase and free warren, and also of all fairs and market tolls and other profits of fairs and markets, courts-leet, courts-baron, views of frankpledge and other courts and the profits thereof, all piscaries, hawking, hunting, felons, felo de se, etc., and other franchises, immunities, etc., etc., together with the reversion of all and singular the premises and all the Crown title thereto to be holden by him, his heirs and assigns for ever as of the manor of East Greenwich in free and common socage only, by fealty and the rent of 5s. per an. The present grant to be in consideration of the following rents, which are to be reconveyed [to the King] by said Guy, being wrongly sold to him, as having been (1) rents doubly conveyed, or (2) not liable, or (3) not saleable, all as follows and in consideration also of the arrears of the whole and also of the sum of 62l. 5s. 2d. to be by said Guy paid into the Exchequer. And whereas Denzell, Lord Holles, Henry, Earl of Clarendon, William, Visct. Brouncker, William Montague, Esq., Chief Baron of the Exchequer, Sir Rich. Beling, Kt., principal secretary to the Queen Consort, John Harvey, Treasurer to the said Queen, and John Hall, late her Surveyor General stand possessed of said manor (by assignments from the King and from the Trustees of the late Queen Mother) for the remainder of 99 years in trust for the Queen Consort for her life and afterwards in trust for the King: the said Trustees are hereby (after the death of the Queen Consort and the determination of leases by them made) to stand possessed of same in trust for said Guy for the remainder of said term of 99 years: and immediately on the death of said Queen (or at any time during her life time with her consent) they are to assign and transfer the premises for the remainder of their said term to said Guy. Northumberland, similarly sold to Guy 1672, Aug. 5, same having been conveyed 1672, Aug. 2, to William Roberts, gent.; [(2) rents not liable] divers rents issuing out of several houses, tenements, lands in co. Yorks, viz., a free rent of 9d. per an. out of a cottage in Astelby [Aislaby]; 9d. per an. part of a free rent of 1l. 7s. 5d. per an. out of divers lands and cottages in Killome [Kilham] (of which rent the said 9d. per an. is not good); 1s. per an. out of a cottage in Burton Fleming; the rent of 6d. per an. out of certain lands, in Muston; the farm of 6d. per an. for a house called the Guildhouse and a toft in Rudston; the rent of 3s. and 2d. per an. out of a close in or near Hulbrig [Hull Bridge]; the rent of 6s. 1½d. per an. for a cottage with a close of 1 acre, 1 felion and ½ a land in Patrington; the rent of 5s. per an. out of a tenement in Keyingham and a pasture in East Carr; the rent of 1s. 1d. out of a cottage in Outham; the annual rents of 4½d. payable by the free tenants [of] and [of] 2s. for 5 acres of land in Elsternwick; the rent of 1s. 2d. per an. out of a cottage in Welwick; the rent of 4s. per an. for a cottage, a little croft, half an oxgang and 3 acres of arable land in Collom [Cottam]; the rent of 8d. per an. for 1½ acres of arable land in Yeddingham; the rent of 10s. per an. for the Castle of Scarborough; the rent of 13s. 4d. per an. for a watermill in Gateful; the rent of 1l. 18s. 4d. per an. in lieu of 23 quarters of beans at 20d. per quarter out of the rectory of Rosse; the annual rent of 7l. 10s. 0d. for three messuages in Catterton; the rent of 4s. per an. for divers orchards or gardens in Clementhorpe; the rent of 4d. per an. for a tenement in York, Goodgroomgate end; the rent of 4d. per an. for a tenement in Friergate [in York]; the rent of 1s. per an. for a tenement in Wickelgate, in St. Nicholas parish in York; the rent of 11½d. per an. for a tenement in Waingate, in the parish of St. Margaret [in York]; the rent of 2s. 2d. per an. part of a rent out of several tenements, cottages and lands in Ampleforth; 7s. 8d. per an., being the annual tenths for Customary lands in Wighill, viz., for grazing 31 score of sheep; the rent of 4s. per an. not good of 8s. per an. for lands in Helaugh; the rent of 2 ½d. per an. for a tenement in St. Andrew Gate in York; the rent of 6d. per an. for a tenement in Skeffling; the rent of 6s. per an. for a close in Great Driffield; Northumberland for the annual stipend of 2 chaplains there make together the sum of 17l. 5s. 1½d. per an.: whereof (as appears by Auditor Aldworth's certificate of 1678–9, Feb. 4), the greatest part has not been answered [to be Crown] for above 40 years, same being charged upon the collectors in their accounts, but the said collectors having alleged that they knew not where to levy the same: "by which we are fully satisfied" that said Henry Guy has not received and that neither he nor his heirs are likely to receive any benefit thereof. [(3) rents not saleable]: the following lands are to be part of the same surrender consideration, the same having been by deed dated 1672, Aug. 12, sold by the Trustees for Fee Farms to trustees for Lord St. John, now Marquess of Winchester, and having been afterwards [by the like mistake as above], viz., by deed dated 1674–5, Feb. 13, sold to said Guy, viz., several farms or rents parcel of the manor of the Chapiter Court of St. John of Beverley, co. Yorks, that is to say 24s. per an. for 6 oxgangs of arable land lying in the fields of Etton, now or lately paid by John Eastoft; 8s. per an. for 2 oxgangs of same, ibid, paid by same; 10s. per an. for a cottage in Molescroft, now or lately paid by Marmaduke, Lord Langdale; 9s. per an. for a close called Larkclose containing 2 acres of pasture lying near Molescroft Chapel; 18d. per an. for 2 cottages in Molescroft; 9d. per an. for a cottage there (which last three rents are or lately were paid by Thomas Johnson); 6s. 8d. per an. for a close of 2 acres of pasture called Common Garth there, now or late [paid by] Inglebert Leeds; 4s. 2d. per an. for 2 cottages there paid by John Taylor; 2s. 3d. per an. for another cottage there, paid now or late by Allen Percey; 6d. per an. for a close there, paid now or late by Anthony Pierson and 4s. per an. for a standing in the fair time at Beverley, amounting in the whole to 3l. 10s. 10d. per an.: it appearing by certificate of Auditor Aldworth dated 1679, Dec. 3, that same are not saleable under the Act for sale of Fee Farms, being copyhold rents, parcel of the said manor [of St. John of Beverley].All the aforesaid rents, making together 30l. 13s. 3½d., were sold by said Trustees at 16 years' purchase, making a principal of 490l. 12s. 8d. and the arrears thereon computed from 1672, Lady day, to 1679, Michaelmas, amount to 229l. 19s. 8¼d., thus making 720l. 12s. 4¼d., as by a certificate from Henry Dering, Clerk to the Trustees for Fee Farms. As against this sum the said manor of Tring is valued (by ratal of the Surveyor General of Crown Lands dated Nov. 20 last) at 782l. 17s. 6d. (being 10 years' purchase) for the inheritance thereof after death of the Queen Consort.
