Warrant, dated Wallingford House, from Treasurer Danby to the King's Remembrancer to forbear entring, filing and estreating any issues against John Shales as former clerk to the Sub-Commissioners for Prizes in London port on the supers of 4,010l. and 2,528l. 6s. 5d. set upon him in two accounts of Richard Mounteney, senr., of the moneys arising by sale of ships and goods taken and condemned as prize, the one [account] beginning Dec. 25, 1671, and ending 1673, March 25, and the other beginning 1673, March 25, and ending 1675, July 10, upon which supers process issued and issues are returned against Shales by the sheriff of Middlesex : the present warrant being by reason that said Shales is now upon [his] account before Auditor Sir Richard Langley for said supers and for several other sums by him received. Countersignature by Treasurer Danby directing the Customs Commissioners to observe an order of the King in Council, dated Whitehall the 18th inst., for the delivery to Dr. Castilian, Dean of Rochester, of several books entitled 'an address of the Ch rc of England to the two Houses of Parliament' and also pictures, crucifixes and reliques brought from beyond sea and seized by the Customs officer at Rochester in whose hands they now remain : said Dr. Castilian being to send them to the bishop of London to be disposed of by him according to law. Memorandum [the copy of] this order came hither [to the Treasury Chambers] but yesterday.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to suffer the Rupert yacht (lately come from Backrag laden with Rhenish wine for Prince Rupert, which he designs for presents and for his own use) to come up to Whitehall to be unladen there in the presence of an officer who is to receive customs for each particular parcel as 'tis delivered. Out Letters (Customs) III p. 304.
Treasurer Danby's subscription of a docquet dated May, of a pardon to David Thomas, gent., for the killing of Alexander Christopher : with restitution of lands and goods, etc., said Thomas having been lately by accident in the company of said Christopher and others in the parish of Llanbethian co. Glamorgan, when said Christopher grew very abusive and quarrelsome with some of that company, and being removed out of the room, received divers blows from some of the company, whereof [he] soon after died ; whereupon said Thomas was twice indicted, but neither of the bills was found against him by the grand jury as appears by the report of the senior Justice of the Great Sessions for said County upon said Thomas's petition thereon to the King : the present grant being to prevent malicious prosecutions for the future. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners for the delivery, customs free, to William Chiffinch of the following particulars imported in the ship May Flower, John Walters master, being for the King's use : viz., two cases of drafts and pictures, some of the [Holy] family ; a case of two marble statues, antique ; a case of drawings, prints and designs ; a box of "smoocht base" [? smoked bass] and a gammon or two ; a case of pictures unfinished and some finished ; wearing apparel, glasses, a marble pot, a box with frames, a box with pictures and a box with one picture. [?] Same from same to same to permit the export, customs free inwards or outwards, of 200 double barrels of gunpowder and a hundred and a half of deals seized by the messenger of the Ordnance ; all in accordance with Treasurer Danby's warrant to the officers of the Ordnance in the case of James Lebas touching said goods which were ordered thereby to be delivered to the proprietor on security being given for their transportation to Calais, and on payment of the charges expended in the [seizing and] securing same. May 28. Treasurer Danby to the Attorney General. The Customs Commissioners have laid before me a petition of one of the jerquers of London port, importing that the matter between the King and Holder (about which I formerly wrote to you) may be in danger to be non pros't by you, which will put a period to the King's right to the forfeiture, also that the material witness for the King is kept out of the way by Holder. You are to suspend the granting of the non pros. Warrants not Relating to Money VII. p. 67.
Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to deliver, customs free, the equipage of Charles, Count de Waldestein, Envoy Extraordinary from the Emperor of Germany, viz., what thereof is lately arrived in the Ann yacht from Vienna [sic for Venice] and the eight horses and a coach expected in a ship from Holland, and other particulars expected in another ship from Bruges, David Mason (Maron) master.
Appending : Schedule of said goods (including eight pairs of boots, three cellars for wine, four guns, eight pair of pistols, a hat case, bed tapistry, gilt glasses, etc).

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Barons of the Exchequer to swear Thomas Done into office as deputy to Edmond Long and John Danvarse (Danverse) as Searchers of London port. Out Letters (Customs) III. p. 306.
Same from same to the Customs Commissioners to employ John Kempson or John Jackson (which you think fit), present landwaiters at Yarmouth, as collector of Southwold, loco John Harte, dismissed, upon their present salary as landwaiters, and with the additional salary of the collector. Ibid, p. 307.
Same from same to same to employ John Sharp and Richard Vickers as respectively Comptroller and Surveyor General [of Customs and new Plantation duty] in New York where no surveyor has been yet established, and as same in Jamaica, loco Simon Musgrave, whose business will not admit of his attendance on that office, "and that one half of the duties received by the collector in Jamaica may be allowed to him [Vickers] whereof [usually only] one third [is allowed] to the Comptroller and Surveyor General, the receipt of that place being small, and the like [is] done at Antigua and other Plantations." Same from same to same to deliver, on payment of customs, a small case of earthenware, value 4l., brought to the King's warehouse by John Chittham, which as appears by the affidavit of Nathaniel Bland, servant and apprentice to John Osgood, of London, merchant, were sent to his mistress from Rotterdam as a present, for private use and not for merchandise. Treasurer Danby's subscription of a docquet dated May, of a grant to Anne, Countess Dowager of Bristol, relict of George, late Earl of Bristol, of an annuity of 1,000l. from Lady day last for ten years ; payable quarterly out of the tenths of the Clergy within the dioceses of York, Exeter, Winchester, Lincoln and Sarum. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to Sir Edward Griffin, Treasurer of the Chamber. You have represented to me that you have already borrowed several sums of money by my leave or direction upon orders and tallies granted to you for the service of your Office, for which you were necessitated to give 2 per cent. reward besides the 6 per cent. interest and [that you] can take up more at the same rate for further supply of the said service if you have [my] said allowance. You are hereby authorized for the future to take up such money as you shall have my direction for at the interest of 6 per cent. and gratuity of 2 per cent. (2l.), for a book called The Golden Fleece (4s.), for a book of treaties called Recueil des traités, etc. (5s.), to the mapman for pasting Jamaica and Newfoundland on cloth [and for] a map of England and mending some maps, etc. (1l. 6s. 6d.), for a large map of the world (16s.), for the Bills of Rates, etc. (1l. 14s. 2d.), and other items of Exchequer fees, etc. : all as allowed and attested by six of the Lords of said Committee, viz., Lord Finch, Earl of Anglesey, Earl of Bridgewater, Earl of Craven, Sir Geo. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to settle the additional allowances from Lady day last of 50l. per an. to Samuel Clerk, Surveyor of the King's Warehouse, London port, and 10l. per an. to his assistant to make their salaries 200l. and 40l. per an. respectively in regard of their great skill, fidelity and industry. May 30. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Thomas Whitgrave the son, or to such as his father, Thomas Whitgrave, shall appoint in trust for him, of an annuity or yearly pension of 200l. payable out of the Tenths of the Clergy of the dioceses of York, Winchester, Sarum, Exeter, Peterborough and Lincoln by tallies of assignment to be struck at the Exchequer on the Receivers of said Tenths by equal half yearly portions at Lady day and Michaelmas : the first payment thereof to commence at the first of the said feasts after the death of said Thomas Whitgrave, senr., and the ceasing thereby of the like pension granted to him by patent of 1666, July 30, and to be for the natural life of said Thomas the son : all in consideration of the great loyalty and fidelity of said Thomas Whitgrave, senr., "and particularly in the time of our greatest danger after our escape from Worcester when he used all his endeavours to secure us from the search and violent pursuit of our enemies." Instructions from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners in reply to their representation of the 28th inst. You are to repay to Charles Loreing merchant, the difference between the duty of a hogshead of 25 tons [sic] of French wine and that of a hogshead of lees, same appearing by the affidavit of the cooper to be lees. I once more signify my approval of your order of Jan. 19 last to the patent searchers of Gravesend, having heard what was alleged on behalf of the said searchers by their counsel, and being fully satisfied that it will be for his Majesty's service to enjoin their obedience to the said order. Report to the King from Treasurer Danby on a draft letter dated May, 1677 [from the King] to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland ; said letter being to the following effect. The salary or entertainment allowed to Roger, Earl of Orrery as President of Munster by his patent exceeds the allowance for same in the late establishment [of Ireland, in the item for pay] of his salary by about 72l. per an. By a royal letter dated Whitehall, 1674, May 9, it was ordered that the said 72l. or so much as the said late [Irish] establishment was [as to this item] short of the old [Irish] establishment should be forthwith added and inserted in the said late establishment. And yet in the present establishment notwithstanding, the item for said Earl's salary is the same as first entered in the said late establishment. At the request of said Earl so much as above is hereby ordered to be inserted in the present establishment [of Ireland] and that the same from and after Sept. 29 next be paid to him in the same portions and times as the rest of the establishment is, and the arrears of the same from the commencement of the present establishment to Sept. 29 next are to be paid him by the Vice-Treasurer of Ireland out of such money as the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland shall appoint. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Clerk of the Pipe to allow to Sir Edmund Jennings, sheriff of Yorks, in his account as sheriff 83l. upon his bill to that amount relating to the execution of the late commission against Recusants in co.
