Warrant under the royal sign manual to Lord Vaughan
[Governor of Jamaica]. The King's hired ship
Thomas and Francis, commanded by Capt. George
Gallop, in consortship with a privateer commanded
by Capt. Edw. Otway, took the Dame Susan of
Amsterdam, aboard of which were 544 negroes,
which [prize] being brought to Jamaica was there
by the Admiralty condemned to the Crown, the Lord
High Admiral and the privateer's fees and charges.
Accordingly 300 of said negroes were disposed
of and 244 left to the King. On their return to
England said Capt. Geo. Gallop and his seamen
petitioned for their right in the said prize according
to the act of 13 Car. II., which gives them all the
merchandise on the gun deck of any prize.
Said petition was referred to the Judge Admiral
[Advocate] here and afterwards to the Commissioners
of Prizes, who after many hearings and full debates,
have sentenced and adjudged the said 244 negroes
to said Capt., officers and seamen, and have likewise
determined what the proportion and shares of the said
officers and seamen ought to be. We understand
that Sir Thomas Lynch, former Governor of Jamaica,
left in your [Lord Vaughan's] hands in money and
debts standing out 4,801l. as the produce of the said
244 negroes. In accordance with the order of the
Commissioners of Prizes you are to immediately remit
to England the full proceeds of the said 244 negroes
to Thomas Yates of Grays Inn as agent, trustee
or assignee of the said Capt. Geo. Gallop, officers
and seamen. Further, the King hereby renounces
and releases all right whatever to the said prize
of 544 negroes, and hereby invests said Yates
therewith in right of said Captain and seamen.

Same for 43,115l. 2s. 7d. to Sir Robert Vyner due to
him for interest and several rewards as follows, viz. :
for 6 per cent. interest and 4 per rent. reward (as by
an account thereof) on 20,216l. 10s. 0d. advanced by
him for the Privy Purse ; on 3,300l. agreed to be
paid and allowed him for the interest, advance and
risque of 30,000l. by him paid into the Treasury
in Ireland ; on 8,804l. 1s. 0d. and 14,221l. 4s. 0d.
which he advanced and lent on several assignments
drawn by John Fenn, agent to Sir George Carteret,
late Treasurer of the Navy, on Sir Thomas Player,
deceased, late Chamberlain of London ; and on 460l.
which he paid to William Gomelden for a diamond
ring sold to the King ; and for 6 per cent. interest
(as by an account thereof) on 93,793l. 9s. 2d. for
plate by him delivered into the Jewel House ;
and for 2 per cent. reward (as by an account thereof)
allowed him for the procurement of 250,000l. on the

allowed as above for the risk of returning money
into Ireland and for the 460l. paid as above to
Gomelden, the said Vyner has no security assigned
