Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the King's Remembrancer for process of distringas ad computandum against Sir Thomas Littleton, Sir Denis Gawden, Josiah Child, Thomas Papillon and Benjamin Gawden, late victuallers of the Navy, who ought to have accompted long since. Warrants not Relating to Money VI. p. 353.
Same from same to [Mr. Bland]. There are sundry rents, tenths, pensions, portions, fines, amerciaments, heriots, reliefs and arrearages of rent and other profits which stand charged before the several Auditors of the Exchequer, and are due to the King according as they are estreated to you from the said auditors, or under the hands of said auditors or the Receivers or Collectors thereof in divers schedules by them subscribed. You are hereby to repair to the several persons chargeable with any such debts, and to levy same by distress. And forasmuch as divers tenants chargeable with rents, services, herriots, reliefs and amerciaments within the collection of bailiffs, reeves and other officers have refused to pay same, to the decay of "his Highness's" revenue and the great loss of said accomptants who have desired the aid of the King's servants to levy same you are hereby to so assist all such officers by levying by distress or arresting resisters and refusers and bring them before me or deliver them to the sheriff to remain in gaol without bail. Pembroke, and 6l. 13s. 4d. imposed upon David Parry, of the same, for a certain riot, rout, unlawful assembly, assault and false imprisonment, of which they were convicted ; and the latter sum representing several fines more of 6l. 13s. 4d. each, imposed upon Rice Parry, Edw. Emanuel, Llewellen Jones, Stephen Harry, Robt. Harry, Morgan Thomas, and Geo. June 4, [erratum for July 4]. Report to the King from Treasurer Danby on the petition of Capt. Alexander Mackenyie to be refunded the 515l. 0s. 6d. which he paid for his ransom as follows. I am ready to order payment thereof as soon as I shall receive your Majesty's direction therein.
Prefixing : (a) said Makennyie's petition to the King. Has always faithfully served the King. In that unfortunate engagement against the Moors in Barbary, Sept. 19 last, had several wounds, his horse killed under him and all those under his command slain, was taken prisoner and so kept for several months. Was carried 20 days' journey into the country before the Emperor Muley Ismael, and contracted with said Emperor for his ransom 400 guns each seven spans long, to be delivered Aug. 15 next, for which the English merchants there are his security, and the rest of the ransom referred to Alcade Marino, Governor of Sallee. Notwithstanding his agreement with the said Alcade for 1,000 pieces of eight, yet before he could obtain his liberty he was forced to pay and secure to be paid the sums as follows, besides the loss of his horses and equipage in the said engagement, and the charge of his voyage to London. Therefore prays the King to give order for the said guns, and for payment of 515l. 0s. 6d., and for compensation for said equipage, etc.

Sir Francis Leeke, Governor of Gravesend [fort], prays that no further progress may be made in passing the lease to Mr. Raifes of the ground which he [Leake] says belongs to the fort, till he be heard as to his claim to the said ground as Governor. Caveat Book, p. 20.
[?] Cave that Samuel Phillips "a patent waiter of the Customs in this port" [London] procure no grant upon sale or surrender of his office without notice given to Mr. Ellis Lloyd, of the Inner Temple, who by patent has now the immediate reversion upon the next vacancy. Ibid.

Warrant [to the King's Remembrancer] from Treasurer Danby (by way of subscription to a draft commission herefor) for a commission to issue from the Exchequer Court for setting out and assigning wharves and keys for the port of Yarmouth and members. Whereas for the better preservation of the [Privy] Council books and papers, his Majesty was pleased to order that the office in which these were kept should be repaired and made more fit for that use than before, and accordingly workmen were employed therein, who having long since finished the said office and brought in their bills for materials and work amounting to 83l. 19s. 7d., the said bills were sent to be inspected by the Surveyor General [of Works] who upon examining the particulars thereof, did think fit that 9l. 12s. 0d. should be abated out of the whole ; and the persons so employed humbly praying payment of the 74l. 7s. 7d. remaining, in regard they have been long without their moneys, it is hereby ordered to be forthwith paid as follows, viz., 64l. 16s. 1d. to Thomas Kynard, his Majesty's joiner, 6l. 6s. 6d. to John Wilkinson, his Majesty's locksmith, and 3l. 5s. 0d. to the mason.

Royal warrant for a privy seal for 8,000l. per an. for the Lord Treasurer's salary : the privy seal of 1668, April 30, having directed the payment of 8,000l. per an. to Sir Stephen Fox for secret service, which his Majesty designed for the entertainment and salary of the then Treasury Lords, being the same allowance given before to Treasurer Southampton : and accordingly the said sum of 8,000l. per an. has been from time to time received by Sir Stephen Fox and paid to the Treasury Lords, and since then to Treasurer Clifford and Treasurer Danby successively until Xmas, 1675 : the King having now thought fit to determine any further payment to Fox under the name of secret service on said privy seal, and to continue the payment of the said sum, so as the use to which it is to be applied may appear at the Exchequer : payment hereon to commence from Lady day last and no further payment to be made on the privy seal of 1668, April 30.
