Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great
seal for a reversionary grant to Robert Raworth and
Martin Folkes, both of Grays Inn. at the nomination of Sir
William Temple and Henry Brouncker of the mansion or
dwelling house as below, and the 42 acres of meadow and one
acre of land adjoining the scite of the late monastery of Shean
alias West Sheane alias Richmont in Surrey, which said

the south wall of the said site and the conduit and ferry ; but

thereof with bricks and the courtyard before said house, garden,

were granted to said Lord Belasyse. The present reversionary
grant to Temple and Brouncker (being both interested in the

years after the expiry of Lord Belasyse's remainder of the
current term of 60 years and to be under a pepper corn rent if
demanded. (Treasurer Danby's subscription, dated Nov. 17,

Report to the King from Treasurer Danby on the petition of
Joanna Mayer, widow of Col. John Mayer. The Duke of
Albemarle and Major Gen. Morgan certified that said Mayer,
being Governor of Berwick when Monck marched out of
Scotland, declared with him against Col. Lambert's party and
corresponded with him and was active and highly instrumental
in the Restoration. From papers produced I am inclined to
believe that he incurred an arrear of pay for his regiment of
943l. 4s. 0d., which was delayed to be paid him by the former
Paymaster of the Army upon the disgust they had taken
against him for his adherence to your Majesty's interest, and
that the Duke of Albemarle was from that time careful and
solicitous that satisfaction should be made him thereupon,
and that a warrant for payment may have been granted him
which has been lost.

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners
to give strict command for seizing all gold leaf and silver

leaf gold and leaf silver is daily in great quantities imported
contrary to the Statute of 1 R. III., c. 12, and vended here to
the manifest ruin of the English manufacture, and that such
gold and silver is of far less value than what is made in
England, and yet is imposed on the King's subjects ; which
abuses do probably happen because many persons' pretending
ignorance of the said statute by reason of its great antiquity,
and particularly the same is not known to officers of the outports.

Privy seal to Treasurer Danby et al. to give warrant to the
Trustees for sale of Fee Farms to contract with the Earl of
St. Albans for the fee farm rent of 80l. per an., payable to the
Crown out of certain slips and parcels of ground in St. James's
Field, whereon the great houses were and are to be built in
accordance with a reversionary lease to John Hervey and Sir
John Coell of some houses and ground in St. Martins in the
Fields and St. Giles in the Fields in trust for said Earl for
said ground : which said fee farm rent was intended by said
lease to "begin to be payable only from the time the said
great houses should be built, which at the time of passing the
grant of the said slips and parcels of ground to Baptist May
and Abraham Cowley and their heirs in trust for the said Earl
and his heirs were believed would have been finished and
the same slips and parcels of ground improved in the time and
space of one year from the passing of the said grant, and therefore
only one year's time was allowed without rent for the
doing thereof, our said grant thereof bearing date 1 April, 1665 ;
but the plague, war and fire happening, all undertakers being
discouraged, some parts of the said slips and parcels of ground
remain yet unbuilt." The King is therefore willing to accept
from said Earl 300l. in full satisfaction of 760l. due for 9½
years' arrears of said fee farm rent. This sum together with
3,000l. fine due for said lease, and 1,280l. for the purchase
price of said fee farm (at 16 years' purchase) makes a total of
4,580l., against which the King is indebted to said Earl in the
following sums, viz. : 40l. for two years' creation money, due
at Michaelmas last ; 100l. as the unpaid balance of 2,500l for
plate bought of him by the King ; 52l. paid by him for building
the stage for the Italian comedians ; 600l. paid by him by
special warrant to one Peter, a Moor, and 3,235l. due from the
King to Thomas Lord Windsor and assigned by said Lord
Windsor to said Earl St. Albans (and representing 1,775l. as
the remainder of an annuity of 2,000l. granted to said Lord
Windsor, 1661, Aug. 2, as Governor of Jamaica and the islands
adjacent, same being unpaid for 10 months and 21 days to
1663-4. Feb. 15 ; and 1,460l. remaining unpaid of the 1,500l.

sum is to be balanced against the above mentioned debt due

rent herein as above. (Royal warrant, dated Sept. 28. for
said privy seal. Treasurer Danby's subscription, dated Oct. 14,

Report to the King from Treasurer Danby on the petition of
Charles Leave. It appears from the report of the Auditor for
co. Lincoln that the rent of 200l. per an. is in charge before
the Auditor and so is no new discovery but is reserved upon a
grant made of Sutton Marsh by the late King to the late Duke
of Richmond. "and by reason of many controversies about the
title of the said marsh the said rent hath been unpaid for
above six years and a half, the arrears whereof amount to
1,322l. 6s. 2d." By direction of the Chancellor of the
Exchequer the said Auditor apportioned this arrear to be paid
as follows : 924l. 2s. 6¾½d. by the executors of said Duke :
151l. 10s. 3¾d. by Lady Dacre ; 78l. 9s. 8¾½d. by Francis
Wrenham, and 168l. 3s. 71/8d. by Mr. Phillip Leman. The
three latter sums amount to 398l. 3s. 71/8d. which is the arrear
desired by petitioner. By law your Majesty may compel any
of the said persons to pay the whole 1,322l. 6s. 2d. but not
equitably since the above apportionment. Your Majesty may
gratify petitioner if you so please.
