Treasury Minutes. Present: Mr. Chancellor [of the Exchequer], Mr. Wallop, Mr. Baillie, Mr. Clayton. The Commissioners of Forfeitures attending with Sir Robert Constable, the Agent for Scotland, represent that by the smallness of the rents of the forfeiting persons, which are always paid in kind, which makes it necessary to employ several persons in the collecting of them, the office of an Agent is rendered useless, especially since by a late Act of Parliament [1 Geo. I, c. 50] the Commissioners are empowered to appoint stewards, factors, collectors &c. to execute all matters and things relating to the collection &c. of the rents of the estates forfeited. The Commissioners of Forfeitures will pay Sir Robert Constable his salary to Xmas last from which time he is dismissed. [My Lords order] Mr. Lowther to pay the [Exchequer] fees of the warrants for John Williams, Evert Jolyvet, Thomas Chauncey [on their orders] for 200l. each and [on the order] for 300l. to Henry Smith.
