Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Samuel Dawson, a King's waiter London port, proposing Henry Garret as his deputy. Reference Book IX, p. 323.
Same to the Board of Works of the petition of Sir John Vanbrugh shewing that the great water engine in Windsor Castle is so faulty and worn that it is incapable of any further repair, so that there seems an absolute necessity for an entire new engine. Ibid.
Same to Auditor Harley of the petition of Harriet Ramondon, daughter and sole executrix of Dr. Laurence, late Principal Physician to his Majesty, setting forth that Dr. Shadwell, who succeeded her father as Principal Physician to his Majesty, has unwarrantably been paid his [her father's] salary two months and a half before the date of his [Shadwell's] admission to that employment; that her father died an incumbent on the 25 Sept. 1714, notwithstanding which the said Dr. Shadwell has received the salary of Principal Physician from the 1 Aug. 1714 to 15 Oct. following though his warrant bears date only the 15 Oct.: therefore petitioner hopes she has a right to her father's salary till the admission of Dr. Shadwell.
In the margin: This petition, with Auditor Harley's report thereon, was referred 15 Jan. 1717–18 to the Attorney General who is to hear the parties concerned and inspect the evidence and report. Ibid., p. 324.
Same to Mr. Cracherode of the petition of Thomas Crisp, late Sheriff of the County Palatine of Lancaster, shewing that the business of the said county from which the sheriff's profits should and usually have arisen being almost wholly stopped by the late Rebellion and petitioner having been obliged for the necessary service of the Government to be at so very great and further expense not only in attending the further execution of the special Commission at Preston and executing five of the rebels at Lancaster and in and about the outlawing 94 persons that were indicted for rebellion and fled for the same, but also in sending through the county to find out and make return of the personal and real estates of all traitors and of estates given to superstitious uses to the Commissioners of Enquiry pursuant to their precepts from time to time directed to him and his undersheriff for that purpose: therefore petitioner prays that same may be reimbursed to him by the public, and his undersheriff and agent may be further considered for their diligence and service to the Government. Mr. Cracherode is hereon to report how far the Crown by usage or custom ought to be charged with such demands. Ibid., p. 326.
May 1. Treasury warrant to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a constat of a piece of waste ground lying within the precincts of Whitehall Palace as follows in order to a lease thereof to Lord Henry Herbert for 30 years at 10l. per an. rent: with a clause of reassumption to the Crown without compensation in case of the rebuilding the palace of Whitehall.
Prefixing: said Surveyor General's report on the petition of the said Lord Herbert. I have viewed the said piece of ground of 78 feet by 120 feet and find it almost covered with heaps of rubbish, part of the ruins of the said palace. It abuts south on a little garden called Queen Mary's Garden; south west on a passage leading from the Privy Garden to the abovesaid garden and is bounded north west and north east on other ruins of the said palace. Prefixing: report by the said Commissioners (William Cleland, Ja Campbell, J. Haldane) dated April 18 last recommending the said Cosnan as well known [knowing] in the laws and experienced in the practice of that [the Salt] Duty and as having already been very serviceable in settling and regulating that branch of the revenue in another station. Treasury warrant to the Auditor of the Receipt et al. to strike tallies on the Farmers of the Post Fines for 2,276l. in discharge of the rent of said farm for the year ended at Michaelmas 1716: the said sum having been answered to the King by the respective sheriffs upon the determination of their respective accounts.
Prefixing: certificate by Fra[ncis] Neale, Deputy Clerk of the Pipe, of the moneys so answered to the Crown by 19 sheriffs, detailed, being Post Fines money demised 18 July 1696 to Thomas, Lord Raby (now Earl of Strafford) at the yearly rent of 2,276l. Money Book XXV, p. 297.

William Lowndes to the Attorney General to report on the enclosed draft [missing] of a warrant concerning a reversionary grant of the offices of the two Auditors of Imprests. May the said offices be legally granted to take effect in reversion and particularly after a forfeiture and if either of them be now void by any default or misfeazance will a grant in reversion be valid in law? William Lowndes to the Board of Works. It is represented to my Lords by Mr. Wise, his Majesty's gardener, that one William Comfort, late a servant and day labourer in the gardens at Hampton Court, keeps possession of one of the garden houses upon the Bowling Green there against the said Wise and his orders although he [Wise] has thought fit to dismiss him [Comfort] for misbehaviour and enormities that made him unfit to be continued therein. My Lords direct you to take care that the said William Comfort be required immediately to depart out of the said house and to clear the possession thereof for the said Wise “within whose contract for keeping his Majesty's gardens the same is comprehended”.
