1706. July 8. Royal warrant dormant dated at Windsor Castle to Treasurer Godolphin to pay to William Cotesworth, during the Queen's life, 500l. per an, out of the 1,500l. per an. pension granted by the Queen, at her accession, to Henry, Earl of Clarendon, as of her royal bounty, out of Secret Service: the said Earl having prayed (for the better accommodation of his affairs) the Queen to ascertain said sum to said Cotesworth for the Queen's life “although he, the said Earl, should not so long live,” to which prayer the Queen has been pleased to condescend. The same is hereby to be paid out of Secret Service from midsummer 1706 quarterly. T. 38/737, p. 1.
