The like as to [the report on the petition of] Luke Lloyd's executors.
Desire Sir Cloudesley Shovel to be here to-morrow morning about
some tin to be carried on board her Majesty's ships to Genoa and
Leghorn.
Direct Mr. Jett to certify how much is paid towards the first year's
interest and how much will complete the same [interest] as [far as
relates] to registered debentures [for Army arrears charged on Irish
Forfeitures].
On [reading] Mr. How's memorial of this day [my Lord Treasurer]
ordered [issues as follows for the Guards and Garrisons viz.] 3613l.
19s. 0d. and 12l. 8s. 0d. out of funds for the year 1706 and 1130l.
19s. 2d. out of money in said Howe's hands for the year 1704.
The Duke of Marlborough comes in.
[My Lord Treasurer directs] the money due to Machado on this
year's contracts to be paid by advance : out of Contributions for
annuities [anno 1706].
Issue to Mr. Bridges, on his privy seal for 100,000l. for Extraordinaries
[of the war], 5073l. for horses of the Troopers lost since
31 Oct. 1705 and 2500l. for horses of the Officers lost since that time :
to be issued out of the like Contributions.
On Mr. Bridges' memorial of this day [my Lord Treasurer] ordered
the issue of the following sums viz. 58,930l. 0s. 6¾d., 11,775l. 3s. 6d.,
14,312l. 3s. 8¾d., 900l., 246l. 17s. 6d. and 484l. 2s. 0d. [for services
under his care of pay to wit for the 40,000 men, the 10,000 additional
men, the 10,200 men in Portugal for the service in Catalonia and for

Present : Lord Treasurer, Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer.
[My Lord Treasurer directs that] Sir Thomas Littleton is to dispose
of 100,000l. of the tallies and orders in his hands on the Land Tax
[by raising loans thereon] at 5 per cent, [interest, reckoning same]
from the time the money is advanced to him.
The Customs Commissioners and the Attorney General are called
in with Mr. Dod and Mr. Scroop, the Counsel for Mr. Weeks [Wicks].
The said Counsel insist that nothing appears to be due from Mr. Weeks,
but upon hearing the Customs Commissioners my Lord Treasurer
thinks there is a wilful deliberate fraud and proposes that two persons
to be indifferently chosen for the Queen and for Mr. Weeks may
examine the books and bonds [of the Plantation Duty in London
port] and state the account : "which not being agreed to, my Lord
doth not think there is any ground to proceed to a composition."

[My Lord Treasurer directs] a memorial to be laid before the Queen
[in Council] in behalf of Mr. Morrice that her Majesty in regard of his
good and faithful services be pleased to bestow on him some employment
at his return from Portugal equivalent in value to the place he
now executes there.
[My Lord directs] the Agents for Taxes to attend to-morrow
morning with a list of the Receivers [for this year's Land Tax].
[My Lord directs] 10,901l. 10s. 10½d. out of loans on Land Tax
[anno 1706] to be issued to Mr. Jett to complete the interest due on
unsatisfied debentures for the first year.
Direct the Customs Commissioners to pay 115l. 10s. 0d. to Sir
Gilbert Heathcote in satisfaction of a bill of exchange drawn by Sir
William Beeston, late Governor of Jamaica, on the Navy Commissioners
viz. for the hire of a store house there from August 1696
till April 1700 at 30l. per an. including 5l. 10s. 0d. for the

money : viz.
3000l. to the Cofferer of the Household in further part of last
Xmas quarter.
2000l. to John Tailer on the order in his name for building
at Woodstock.
2000l. for secret service on the order in Mr. Lowndes's name.
1605l. to Paul Methuen ; being 650l. in full of his ordinary
as late Envoy in Portugal ; 500l. for his equipage as Envoy
to the Duke of Savoy ; 455l. for 3 months' advance of
ordinary [as same].
A memorial of Sir Theodore Janssen is read setting forth that on
the 15th Feb. last he gave bills on Genoa for 66,6662/3 Crowns at
58¼ pence [sterling] per Crown amounting to 16,180l. 11s. 0d. for
which he was promised satisfaction by 4 weekly payments from that
day out of Civil List money : but that he has received only one
week's payment being 4045l. 2s. 9d. and that there remains due to
him 12,135l. 8s. 3d. He offers to take his payment out of loans to be
made by himself on tin as fast as there shall be room to fill up the
loan allowed to be made thereon [on the credit of said tin to wit]
not exceeding 100,000l. Ibid., p. 205.

Present : Lord Treasurer.
Mr. Brydges is called in and presents a memorial for 2 months'
subsidy to the Duke of Savoy, amounting to 106,6662/3 Crowns.
Sir Theodore Janssen is called in. My Lord asks him at what
rate he is willing to give his bills [on Genoa or Turin for the said
Duke]. He says the exchange is very much risen and demands 60
pence for a Crown of 82 sols of money of Piedmont. My Lord says
that is very high. Sir Theodore answers that he has made great
provision in those parts and that he believes nobody can do it
cheaper. My Lord desires him to make a proposal in writing at the
lowest rate that possibly he can. Which accordingly he doth and
is as followeth :
I humbly propose to give my bill for Turin dated the 23rd
inst. and payable at 60 days' date for 106,6662/3 Crowns of
82 sols each of [money of] Piedmont at 59½ per Crown.
My Lord agrees to the said proposal and directs Mr. Brydges to
compute the same in another memorial and that then it be immediately
issued to him [Brydges to pay to Janssen] upon the proper
[relative] order out of [annuity] Contribution money in the Exchequer,
that so the bills may be sent away by next Tuesday's post.
On Mr. Brydges' second memorial for the said 2 months' subsidy
to the Duke of Savoy, being by advance from June 4 1705 [sic for
1706] to Aug. 3 following my Lord ordered 26,444l. 8s. 10d. to said
Brydges out of [annuity] Contribution money in the Exchequer :
on the order in said Brydges' name for subsidies anno 1706.
Likewise 27,023l. to Mr. Brydges out of the like Contributions :
and is in part of his order for the 40,000 men for the year 1706 ; and
hereof 6000l. is upon account of clearings, being intended to be
applied towards defraying the charge of the Hospitals for the said
year ; 2709l. 19s. 2d. is for forage and waggon money for General
Officers, Foot and Dragoons from April 24 next to June 23 next ;
and 18,313l. 9s. 0d. is on account of clearings in general.
Memorandum : The last mentioned sum of 18,313l. 9s. 0d. is
intended to be applied to the following uses : viz.

shall be disposed of.
[Likewise] 5466l. 14s. 5½d. to said Brydges on his order for 68,546l.
19s. 6d. granted in 1705 for extraordinaries not provided for in
former years : whereof 3142l. 2s. 2d. is to be out of money coined
from gold dust brought from New England ; and 42l. 19s. 8¾d. is
from arrears of Customs at 1699 Xmas ; 14l. 10s. 0d. from the Duty
of 5s. per ton on French shipping. The said total of 5466l. 14s. 5½d.
is to be applied for clearing the extraordinaries of the Saxe Gotha
Troops as follows : viz. 1585l. 5s. 8½d. for the year 1703 ; and
1614l. 6s. 2¼d. for the year 1704 ; and 2267l. 2s. 6½d. for the year
1705.
[My Lord orders the] issue of 8000l. to Sir Thomas Littleton
on the order in his name for the service of the Navy [anno 1706]
being for the Ordinary of the Navy : to be issued out of [annuity]
Contribution money [in the Exchequer].
[Likewise] 2974l. to Mr. Methuen in full of his extraordinaries as
late Envoy in Portugal.
Likewise 2500l. to the Cofferer of the Household : upon account :
for paying for wine bought for her Majesty's use according to a letter
from the Board of Greencloth.
[Likewise] 4558l. 12s. 11d. to Edward Nicholas : out of Civil List
money as soon as there shall be sufficient [Civil List money in the
Exchequer : and is] for last Lady day quarter's pensions payable by
his hands.
[Likewise] 300l. to the Paymaster of the Works on a memorial of
Sir Christopher Wren for several particular works done at Newmarket
by the Queen's special command.
[Likewise] 1100l. to be issued at the Exchequer to Sir Charles
Cotterell without account : whereof 900l. for the value of a ring
presented by the Queen to Monsieur [Willem] Van Buys who came
lately from Holland with the character of Envoy Extraordinary on
some special affairs : and 200l. to be paid him [Cotterell] as a present
from the Queen to Monsieur Vandernath [Gerhard, Count Von
Dernath], Minister from the Duke of Holstein.
[My Lord orders that] so much is to be paid as is due to Mr. Stepney,
Envoy at Vienna, on account of extraordinaries within the regulation
