enclosing a memorial [missing] of Monsieur Schmettau complaining
of deductions which Mr. Sweet says he must make out of the subsidy
for the 8000 Prussians sent to the assistance of the Duke of Savoy :
as also Mr. Pauncefort's letter [missing] thereon. The Lord Treasurer
has read these papers and doth request you to move the Duke of
Marlborough to order Mr. Sweet forthwith to pay the money for the
subsidies for the 8000 Prussians without deducting the 2½ per cent.
"there being in his Lordship's opinion no manner of pretence for his
having made so unreasonable a delay as he hath done on that
account, the warrant mentioning that deduction to be made out of
the money issued for the Foreign Troops in her Majesty's pay,
whereas this is a subsidy for Forces in the King of Prussia's pay".

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Surveyor General of
Crown Lands for a particular of the house adjoining the Royal House
of Westminster ut supra Treasury Calendar XIX, p. 494 in order
to a lease thereof to John Ingledon (Incledon) and Ann his wife.
Prefixing : report by said Surveyor General on the petition of the
said Incletons. By patent 1633-4 March 19 Charles I granted to
John Wynyard the office of Housekeeper within the Palace of Westminster
with the fee of 6d. a day : and Charles II. granted same
1673 June 26 to Margaret, wife of the said Wynyard and to Grace
his daughter and subsequently 1676 May 8 the life of Elizabeth a
survivor daughter was added and after her that of Ann Incledon,
this petitioner, by the name of Ann Wynyard the other surviving
daughter. The house or lodgings appurtenant to the said office is
in the possession of the petitioners and consists of 2 small ground
rooms and a small cellar under the Lord Treasurer's and the Lord
Keeper's Apartment at the House of Lords, and 2 other small cellars
with a yard, washhouse, passage and conveniences and a piece of
garden ground about 48 feet by 38 feet on which the petitioners have
lately erected a small room or closet at their own charge, and 2 small
rooms, 2 closets, one pair of stairs ; which (with the said 2 small cellars)
are very old buildings and in such decay that they are in danger of
falling down in a short time. The debt owing to petitioners from the
Crown consists in 3 bills for the ancient allowance of 6s. 8d. a day
to the housekeepers, servants and labourers employed in the execution
of the said office for in all 237l. 6s. 8d. up to viz. 1701-2 March 8,
warranted by the Earl of Jersey for payment by the Treasurer of
the Chamber. The said allowance is additional to the petitioners'
fee of 6d. a day.
In this time of frequent Parliaments the service of their office is
greater than it formerly was and the lodgings are not sufficient for
the petitioners' family who rent some rooms adjoining by the year.

the Isle of Wight constitutes him Captain and Governor of all castles
and fortifications therein.

for the repair of the Marshalsea which was very ruinous and weak
and not sufficient to secure the soldiers therein : as is attested by
John Morse, one of the clerks belonging to the Judge Advocate.

in 1702 the said Dudley caused 2 Companies to be raised in New
England and transported to Jamaica under the command of Capt.
Lorrimer and Capt. Walton. His disbursements relating to
Lorrimer's Company were satisfied in August 1703. For Walton's
Company the disbursements were made by Sir Cha. Hobby, Col.
Patridge (Partridge) and Col. Dudley. The clearings of the two
Companies from their raising to their disbandment amount to 881l.
6s. 4d. for Capt. Lorrymer's and 881l. 12s. 6d. for Capt. Walton's,
according to Mr. Howe's report on the petition of Walter Stewart
and James Campbell for said Lorrymere and of Simon Apthorp for
Capt. Walton, being the persons to whom the said two Captains had
assigned the whole pay of their Companies. The above sum may be

of Sir Bazill Firebrass et al. wine merchants of London, shewing that
several of them have paid all their bonds and others near all, that
the Customs Commissioners have ordered their payments to be
endorsed on the bonds, but the bonds not to be delivered up unless
the interest be paid up ; "which they say they never heard of before
and if insisted on they will be losers by all the wines they have sold
for some time past" therefore praying that such bonds as are
endorsed "principal paid" may be delivered up "such bonds

Yard ut supra p. 270 in order to a fresh lease thereof to Charles
Scarborough.
Prefixing : said Surveyor's report on said Scarborough's petition
for same. The premises were granted on lease to Sir Alexander
Frazier, the King's physician 1677 April 2 for 31 years. It lies on
the east of Thomas Windham's ground. Mr. Windham lets now
for about 50l. per an. The house was damaged in the fire and has
lain long empty and the east front must be run up new. I advise
a fine of 150l. on renewal. Warrants not Relating to Money XIX,

for paying 258l. for levy money of 86 men to recruit the 4 Companies
in New York.
Prefixing : report by the Comptrollers of Army Accounts on the
representation from the Board of Trade and Plantations shewing
that they are informed by Visct. Cornbury from New York that
about 100 men are wanting in the said Companies and that by the
respits of the muster rolls there is now more than a sufficient sum
saved, to make the recruits. Former recruits for these Companies
were made out of broken Regiments and Companies which were sent
to the West Indies at the public charge. The sum of 735l. 3s. 0d.
is saved by respits from 1703-4 Jan. 1 to 1704 Dec. 24. Ibid., pp.

till mustered, and the Prince of Denmark promised that they should
be allowed their pay from the dates of the Justices' certificates. We
apprehend that the intention of this promise was only for men who,
by reason of the distance, could not be mustered at the next muster

others, of which he has rendered an account

He claims allowance of 22l. 8s. 11d. for a small
quantity of provisions applied for the
transporting French recruits and recruits
of Duke of Schomberg's Regiment, for
which he believes his deputy gave notice to
the Paymaster to make deductions as well
as for other provisions which appear to be
deducted for ; and in regard a considerable
sum is charged to the French Regiments for
provisions delivered them, he says tis
probable these recruit provisions are part
of those deducted : but whether they be
so does not appear to me.

He further claims for a small wastage of provisions
and 792l. 10s. 2d. for salaries,
contingencies, stationery ware, passing his
accounts etc.

Followed by : (1) report dated 18 Aug. 1705 by the said Auditor
Edward Harley and by R. Barker, Deputy [Queen's]
Remembrancer on the said Robinson's demands of 792l.
10s. 2d. for salaries, contingencies etc. as above. This
report quotes orders of the Committee for the Affairs of
Ireland of 11 Jan. 1689-90 requiring Robinson to appoint
Deputies ; and by minutes from the Council Books of the
7th and 19th Feb. 1689-90 he deputed the said Cuff and
Vickars. And it appears by similar minutes of 28 March,
16 April, 11 June, 30 June, 8 Aug. 1690 and 6 March 1690-1
and 8 April 1691, 4 June and 12 Aug. that the said Committee
did send orders to and receive letters from the said Deputies
directing the buying and disposing of provisions and that
money was issued to them from the Treasury to buy
provisions etc.

William Lowndes to the Attorney General to report on the enclosed
report [missing] of Lord Halifax, the Auditor of the Receipt, on
John Knight's petition touching a stop which he desires to be put
on any further payment of several annuity orders therein mentioned
wherein he and Bartholomew Burton have equal right. Out Letters
