October 1586

Oct. 10. —to Walsingham.
Observations on the designs of the Jesuits. "To furnish their College, they expect no other furniture than the flower of English youth. They will for the time to come provide so that the vineyard successively may be full of labourers (as it has been lately), books to alienate true subjects' hearts, to plant and bring up unprofitable weeds to send into our country, as formerly they have done; to call from us men of sufficiency to aid them . . . if provision to the contrary be not made . . ."—Rone [Rouen] 10 October.
Add. Endd. "10 October, 1586. Advertisements from Rone." 1 p. [Ibid. 148.]
