355. Richard Cocks to Thos. Wilson. Was asked by the Mayor of Bayonne, “in secret sort, calling him apart,” whether he knew a Dutch pilot called Buteres, who had been three or four voyages to the East Indies with Sir Fras. Drake and Capt. Cavendishe. The mayor said Buteres had gone to England to bring his wife to Spain, having promised that King to pilot his East India fleet next year, for which he is to receive a pension of 50 ducats a month.
