[Middx.] C. 6526. Copy of the roll of the court of the manor of Haryngey, held on Thursday, the feast of St. Andrew, 15 Edward IV. The jury present that at the court held on Monday, the feast of St. Andrew, 1 Edward IV, Adam Turvey surrendered two cottages and 19a. land in Haryngey to the use of Alice, his wife, for her life, with remainder to Robert, his son, and that Robert surrendered the two cottages and 8a. of the land to the use of Margaret, his wife, for her life, with remainder to Isabel and Marion, his daughters. They present also that the said Robert surrendered one of the cottages and 2a. of the land, abutting on the high road near the church and on 'Persfeldbrook,' to the use of Giles Ewstace as security for a payment due to him.

And they grant to the said Ralph and Alice, for life, weekly, one London bushel of wheat and one London bushel of barley-malt, called, in those parts, 'estrikes,' 14d. weekly, two quarters of beans and peas, or oats, six cartloads of firewood, and one gown with hood and fur, of the livery of their house, for Ralph, yearly, the chamber called 'Robert de Atherton's chamber,' and hay sufficient for two horses, and a stable whenever they shall come. Chirograph indented, dated Sunday after Midsummer Day, 47 Edward III, between Joan, late the wife of Nicholas Wodelok, of the one part, and John Bybel and Mabel, his wife, of the other part, witnessing that, whereas Richard, son and heir of John Lengleys. knight, has granted to John Bybel, for life, a water mill in Shyrfeld Engleys, with suit of tenants, free and bond, and access to a pond in Shyrfeld to let in and shut off the water, Joan Wodelok, to whom the mill &c. ought to revert at John Bybel's death, grants it to the said John and Mabel, for their life, at a rent of 16s., with power to herself and the farmers dwelling within the manor to grind their corn free of toll; with remainder to Joan, their daughter, for life. And the said John and Mabel and Joan, their daughter, shall keep the mill in repair and maintain it with two mill-stones of half a royal foot in thickness; and shall have the right of building a second mill near the first. And if the mill stand idle for want of repair for a quarter of a year, or if the rent be in arrear for a month, Joan Wodelok may resume possession. Seal.
