A. 8404. Testament and will, with probate endorsed, of John Tyleworth the elder of Retyngdon, co. Essex, dated 1 July, A.D. 1500,15 Henry VII; to be buried 'in the churcheyerde of the parysshe churche of All Halowun of Retyngdon'; to high altar for tithes forgotten one bullock of 4s.; 'to the paymentynge of the seid churche,' 10s.; 'to the stolynge of the same,' 10s.; to his daughter Rose 5 marks; residue of goods to wife Alys and son John, executors. Witness:—'Maister Doctor Breten, parson of Seint Peters in Cornehill in London,' Thomas White and William Hunte.
Lands in Essex and elsewhere; wife to have tenements called 'Werons,' 'Prigeles' and 'Blakes' and a croft called 'Jordens' for life, with remainder to son John; said son to have tenements called 'Barons' and 'Spakemans'; to daughter Jone 'a parcell of land called 'Shittes Croft,' paying 5 marks to the said John her brother.
Proved before John Wood 'in decretis bacallario,' commissary general of Thomas, bishop of London, by the within named executors, 23 July, the said year.

Indenture made 14 June, 16 Henry VII, between Sir Guy Wolston, knight, and Dame Margaret his wife, of the one part, and Richard Emson, gentleman, of the other, whereby the said Richard agreed to be content with 200l. to be received from the said Sir Guy, in the event of the death of Audrey, daughter of the said Guy and Margaret, and wife of Thomas Emson his son and heir apparent, before the said marriage was consummated; in lieu of repayment in full, on security of land, of all sums he might have paid the said Guy in respect of the said marriage, as formerly covenanted between them. Indenture, being an acquittance by Nicholas Catesby, son and heir of Robert Catesby, 'esquyer,' to Dame Margerye Belyngam, 'wydowe, somtyme wiffe to Thomas Ryton otherwise Draper,' for 13s. 4d. in full of an annuity of that amount and all arrears due to the said Nicholas from lands, &c. in the 'towne and feldes' of Bobenhull, co. Warwick, which were the said Thomas Ryton's, and which she held for term of her life with reversion to the right heirs of the said Thomas. The last day of September, 14 Henry VII. English. Surrey, gentleman, to John Wrey, serjeant of the king's ewery, of three tenements and gardens in the parish of Shene otherwise called Richemounte, one tenement and garden being freehold, wherein the said John then dwelt, and the rest copyhold, occupied by Andrew Hosier and one called 'blacke Henry'; the said tenements being bounded north by a tenement of the said Edmund wherein John Dale then dwelt, south by another tenement, garden and barn of the said Edmund wherein Richard Recolver then dwelt, and the said barn belonged to a tenement of the said Edmund called 'the Croune,' west by the 'Freres Walle,' and east by the king's highway; consideration 59l., 30l. paid in land and 29l. at Christmas next. Sussex, and John Norman of the same, and the heirs and assigns of the said John Chilly, of lands and tenements called 'Alchornys' in the parish of Buxstede, co. Sussex, which they lately had by the gift and feoffment of William Weston of Buxstede, on condition that the said John Chilly, his heirs, executors and assigns should find the said William Weston and Denise his wife in all necessaries (victum et vestitum lineum lancum calciamentum et lectum et omnia alia necessaria) during the life of the said William; or, if the said William and Denise wished otherwise (conventiones prescriptas concordare noluerint), should pay them during the said William's life 20s. by half yearly payments at Michaelmas and Easter; or, if the said Denise survived the said William, should pay her 10s. yearly on the said feasts; and also should pay to them, the said Richard and John Weston, their heirs and assigns, 5 marks 6s. 8d. by consecutive quarterly payments. Indenture of sale by John Malory of Welton, esquire, to William Bailly of Watteford, of the wood and underwood growing within a parcel of the grove (grovette) of his manor at Welton, between the ditch by 'le Neuwode' to a hedge and the water of 'le mote' of the said manor, and from a gate (porta) called 'le posterne yate' to 'le mote,' three oaks and a tree called 'elme' growing there excepted; also the wood and underwood between hedges and 'le longepole'; the said William to have free entry and exit to the grove with leave to cut and carry from the day of date to the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula next and for a year following, paying 10l. at Christmas and 8l. at the following Easter; the said John acquitting the prior and convent of Daventry of any tithe they might claim. 1 October, 6 Henry V. Declaration by Richard Archer, 'squyer,' that, whereas it was 'oponly noysed withyn the Counte of Warrewyk' that Richard Smalbroke late of Tonworth in the said county, 'yoman, shuld be seased' of land, &c. late Thomas Brounez in Toneworth, held of him the said Richard Archer as of his manor of Tonworth by knight service, the said Richard Smalbroke was never so seised and was never his tenant to his court of Toneworth therefor; but one Thomas Wodeyate having taken to wife Alice daughter and heir of Thomas and Agnes Broun of Tone- worth, who died seised of the said land, &c. and being seised thereof in right of his said wife, enfeoffed Roger Smert late of Killyngworth, 'squyer,' John Smert, Robert Hugford and him the said Richard Archer, John Wodlowe, Thomas the younger son of him the aforesaid Thomas Wodeyate and Richard brother to the said Thomas Wodeyate the younger thereof; all which feoffees with the exception of himself the said Richard Archer and the said Richard Wodeyate had since died, whereby the whole right in the said land, &c. was in them the said Richard and Richard, 'whech maters comprised in this my writyng ben verey true,' &c., 'by the feith that I owe to god and to alle the world, and that I will witnesse and make good as a gentilman owe to do in this byhalf.' Feoffment by Roger Myle of Clifton to John son of Myle (jilio Myle) of Henlowe for his homage and service and 20s. paid before- hand, of a messuage with a croft adjacent and 3d. yearly rent from Thomas Parage, Ralph le Ferur, Richard Bonserjant and Simon Hayle, the said messuage lying between the messuage of Adam Astel and that late Gilbert Wyscard's; rendering therefor yearly to Master John de Lacy or his assigns 20d. viz. 10d. at Michaelmas and 10d. on the feast of St. Mary in March, two capons (campones) at Christmas and in the [month] of August one 'knytebederip' the lord finding food (ad pastum domini). Acknowledgement by Peter son of Roger Soghou (sir) of 'la Medissole 'that he, his heirs and his tenants in the town of 'la Medissole' were bound to do suit to the mill (sequi molendinum) of Sir John de Beaupre (Bello Prato) and his heirs in Tygambret, in 20s. penalty with the damages the said Sir John and his heirs might have sustained for default of their toll (molture), with power of distraint on all their goods in the manor of Tygembret. Dated at Tygembret, Saturday the eve of the Beheading of [St. John the] Baptist, 5 Edward [I].
