Prayers.

Court of Wards.

ORDERED, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider, How, and in what Manner, the Deeds and Evidences of several Persons, brought into the Court of Wards, may be delivered out unto the respective Persons to whom the same do of Right belong: Viz. to Mr. Hill, Mr. Love, Mr. Say, Mr. White, Mr. Miles Corbet, Mr. Millington, Colonel Charles Fleetwood, Mr. Lechmere; or any Five of them: And this Committee are also to consider and examine, What Monies, Plate, &c. are deposited in the Court of Wards; and in whose Hands the same are; and how the same may be paid out and delivered to such Person or Persons to whom the same doth of Right belong; and how those Persons, whose Grants have not been passed under the Seal of that Court, may now be passed unto them under the Great Seal: And this Committee hath Power to send for Persons, Papers, Records, &c.; and to report their Opinion to the House: And the Committee are to meet in the Court of Wards, on Monday at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon; and so de die in diem.

Farrett's Claims.

Ordered, That Twenty Pounds be forthwith paid to Jane Farrett, Widow of Captain James Farrett, deceased, upon Account, in Part of the Arrears due to the said Captain Farrett: And that the same be charged upon Haberdashers Hall: And that Mr. Lane, the Treasurer of that Committee, be required to pay Ten Pounds thereof, in Part thereof, this Afternoon: And that the Committee be injoined, at the next Time of their Sitting, to give Order for the Payment of the Ten Pounds Residue unto the said Jane Farrett forthwith.

Ordered, That Colonel Sir Thomas Essex have the Benefit of the Money due to the Commonwealth, upon the Bond entered into and forfeited by the Bail of the Earl of Cleveland, upon Account, for what is owing him by the Parliament; the Lieutenant of the Tower being first paid and satisfied thereout what is due to him for Fees, and otherwise, in regard of the Imprisonment of the said Earl, and the Charges of putting the said Bond in Suit: And that, upon Satisfaction given to the said Sir Thomas Essex, and the Lieutenant of the Tower, the Bonds shall be delivered up to the said Bail.

Late King's Servants.

Ordered, That the General's Letter touching Sir Edward Siddenham, Sir William Fleetwood, Mr. John Carey, Mr. Adrian May, and Mr. William Studolph, the late King's menial Servants, be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill touching Articles is referred; to take the same into Consideration; and to report their Opinions therein to this House forthwith: And that they suffer no Prejudice for not attending the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, touching their Compositions, in the mean time.

Relief of Debtors.

Mr. Lechmere reports Amendments to an Act for enlarging poor Prisoners for Debt: Which Amendments were twice read: And, upon the Question, the whole Bill was ordered to be re-committed; and to be brought in on Tuesday Morning: And the Committee are to meet at Two of the Clock this Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber: And all that come are to have Voices: And Five to be of the Quorum: And Mr. Rigby is to take care of it.

Invalid Soldiers, &c.

The humble Petition of divers reduced and maimed Officers and Soldiers, and of the Widows and Children of divers Soldiers slain in the Parliament Service; whose Names are contained in Potter's, Wilcox's, and Saunderson's Lists, was this Day read.

Ordered, That all the Rents and Profits of the Estates of all sequestered Persons, not excepted from Composition, which were due at Lady Day last, or at any time since, and which shall be due on or before the Twenty-fourth Day of June next, be retained in the Hands of the several and respective Tenants of the said sequestred Lands, until the First Day of July next: And that the Commissioners for compounding with Delinquents of Goldsmiths Hall, be required forthwith to give notice hereof to all Committees and Sequestrators in the Country; that the same may be observed.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, to give Order, That the Rents and Profits of the Estate of such Delinquents as have or shall perfect their Compositions before the First of July next, which were due on the Twenty-fifth Day of March last, or that are or shall be due, at any time, from thence, before the First of July next, may be paid to such Persons so perfecting their Compositions as aforesaid; and to present their Opinions to the House, How the Rents and Profits arising out of the Sequestrations of those who shall not perfect their Compositions by the Time aforesaid, may speedily be brought into one publick Treasure, with respect to the Satisfaction of the publick Engagements; and how the same may be employed to the Payment of the Forty-two thousand Pounds, formerly ordered to the Petitioners; and for further Relief of reduced and maimed Officers and Soldiers, and of the Widows and Children of Soldiers slain in the Parliament Service.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee; viz. unto Alderman Pennyngton, Alderman Atkins, Colonel Ven, Mr. Leamen, Mr. Luke Hodges, Mr. Dove, Major Salway, or any Three of them, to see the Accompts of the Treasurers for Sequestrations at Guildhall, Whether there be any Money in that Treasury which was appointed for Satisfaction of the said Forty-two thousand Pounds; and what the Obstruction is, that the same is not brought in; and, if there be any already come in, to give Order, That the same may be distributed ratably to the Petitioners, according to the Proportions in the several Lists; and likewise to consider, What Pensions are paid out of those Sequestrations; and report it to the House: And the Payment of such Pensions are, in the mean time, suspended.

Suppression of Rebellion.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Speaker do give the hearty Thanks of this House to the General, and the Lieutenant General, and the rest of the Officers of the Army, in the last Expedition, for their great Service done to the Commonwealth in that Business.

Mr. Speaker did give the Thanks of this House to the Lieutenant General Cromwell, now present, accordingly.

Ordered, That Mr. Challoner, Sir Wm. Strickland, and Mr. Reynolds, do give the Thanks of this House to the General, and the Officers of the Army, accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That a Day be appointed, and set apart for Publick Thanksgiving to Almighty God, for his great Mercy vouchsafed to this whole Commonwealth, by the Success he hath given to the Parliament Forces, in timely suppressing the late Insurrection and Rebellion, and delivering the Parliament and Nation from the dangerous and sad Effects which the same did threaten.

Thanksgiving Day.

Resolved, &c. That Thursday-next-come-sevennight, being the Seventh of June next, be the Day appointed for Publick Thanksgiving within the Cities of London and Westminster, and the Lines of Communication.

Ordered, That Thursday-next-come-three-weeks be appointed and set apart for a Day of Publick Thanksgiving for the whole Nation.

Preachers appointed.

Ordered, That Mr. Owen be desired to preach before this House, on Thursday the Seventh of June next, the Day set apart for Publick Thanksgiving.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Mildemay do give notice hereof to Mr. Owen.

Ordered, That Mr. Thomas Goodwyn be desired to preach, before this House, upon Thursday the Seventh Day of June next, the Day set apart for Publick Thanksgiving.

Ordered, That Mr. Leaman do give notice hereof to Mr. Goodwyn.

Thanksgiving Day.

Ordered, That it be referred to Commissary General Ireton, Sir Henry Mildmay, and Mr. Leaman, to prepare an Act, to declare the Grounds and Reasons of appointing the said Day of Publick Thanksgiving.

Portesmouth Garison.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider of the repairing, supplying with Provisions, and settling, the Garison of Portsmouth.

Ministers.

Ordered, That Mr. Salway do make Report of the Declaration in his Hands, touching Ministers, on Wednesday next.

Army Arrears.

Ordered, That the Report touching the Arrears of the Soldiers be made on Monday Morning.

Irish Army.

Ordered, That it be specially recommended to the Council of State, to take care for the speedy Advance of the Forces for Ireland.
