Same to Col. Kirke. Several petitions and certificates have been lately presented to the Treasury Lords for arrears of pay due to soldiers discharged, viz. for their service at Tangier, which [cases] my Lords apprehend to be contrary to what the King formerly directed, "and fearing if the like practice should be continued it would prove very inconvenient and prejudicial to his service," they direct that you forthwith signify to the Captains of the respective Companies under you that they do not from henceforth without special order for their so doing discharge any soldier or give certificate for the arrear of pay due to any of them that came from Tangier and now belong to any of their Companies, "it being neither for the honour of his Majesty's service nor the satisfaction of their Lordships to have any of the said persons discharged out of his service until their lordships shall be in a condition to pay and provide for them."
