Report to the Treasury Lords from William Blathwayt on the petition of the Earl of Arran ut infra. I have received information from Barbados of the seizure and condemnation of the ship Resolution of Poole for trading contrary to the Royal Africa Company's Charter and expect by the next ship to hear from my deputy of the condemnation and particular appraisement of said Resolution. Upon the appraisement one moiety of the value will be received by Mr. Stede as accruing to his Majesty by the said charter "and may be applied to the better support of the government there or to such other uses as his Majesty shall direct." Prefixing: (a) Petition to the King from James, Earl of Arran, showing that the said ship Resolution of London of 140 tons, Richard Cobb master, coming from Guinea, is seized in Barbados by the Royal Africa Company as an interloper: prays a grant of the King's moiety of said seizure. (b) Favourable reference from the King to the Treasury Lords dated at the Court at Winchester, 1683, Sept. 22, of said petition. (c) Reference dated 1683, Nov. 22, thereof from the Treasury Lords to said Blathwayt.
